They DO fail, but that’s very, very rare. I’ve only seen a broken one (and luckily the owner lived to show it to me), normally failure comes from the locking mechanism.Most of the accidents come from the weakest spot in the chain, that’s it, the climber (aka, as ALWAYS, the person…). Call it lack of expertise, lack of attention or overconfidence. If used right, alu carabiners are the safest part in an unsafe activity

Totally agree. Just think how much more often people get new ropes… and they’re far more expensive than carabiners. And then think all the fun you get with the 20 bucks of the carabiner… in a few times you’ve used it, it’s already been paid. So whenever it starts to look worn out, just get a new one, you are not throwing that away, there are tons of uses for old carabiners which don’t imply risky situations.
Pledged for a micro bottle opener. I like the design of them.
