Just curious , why people do not wear a protective masks ? Washing hands is important, but wearing a mask is obviously the most straightforward and effective way to protect yourself from the coronavirus .

Classic mask may not adhere perfectly to the face.

I do not have a direct reference to the research, but experts all around the world believe sofar (insights are developing all the time while more data comes in) that the effects of wearing a mask to prevent getting the disease is very limited (the pores in cheap masks are too large, they get damp and useless within an hour, and you contract the virus very easy via the eyes). Although it does help people who already have the disease to partly prevent spreading it to others. Although it was suspected earlier, only in the last week there is hard data that probably the majority of new infections is caused by people who are carrying the virus but show no symptoms yet, this new insight makes wearing masks more meaningful but only if everyone does it (so to protect others). At this moment there is no option to make whole populations wearing masks because in most countries there are hardly enough masks to equip medical staff.

There is not enough masks for everyone, so its reserved for health workers and infected people. Also officials don’t want people to panic…

Best analogy! I can see the healthcare system being overwhelmed just by people panicking as soon as they have a runny nose. This is plain stupid and will crash any healthcare system. On top of that, those that are fine and run to emergency need to realize that there may be others who really have something contagious and if they weren’t really ill before, they will probably end up at the very least spreading it further when they could have just stayed home and see how they feel. Luckily or maybe not……… in my little town, the local hospital is known by most as a band-aide station and would be the last place anyone would want to visit anyway.

Band aid station? Please tell me more. How is your system anyway overall. I’m not liking ours.

Yes, also for high density people but it’s not my Region.
National Health Service is Free on my country for the most of pathology.
However at moment is bad going on Hospital for stupid reasons.
This obstacles who have more need care and you risk getting really infected

There is not enough masks for everyone, so its reserved for health workers and infected people. Also officials don’t want people to panic…

As i know these masks are good for the sick ones…not to sprea it…but even better to get it. I use the best which exist.but in supermarket just few people used it… Sad

However at moment is bad go on Hospital for stupid reasons.

Is it like really free? In Finland its also kinda “free”. You still got to pay small fees unless you use public health care services often enough and after that its free mostly. I think it was like under 700 €/year “all-inclusive”. I removed 4 moles last time and it cost like +20€. Not a bad price, but still no free lunches when taxation is the thing that pays this stuff. Usually also your workplace gives you an occupational health care in some private sector.

Just pay small amount Ticket for Recovery one time you need

In short: even if the lethality rate increases hand in hand with age (0.1% between 40 and 49 years; 0.2% between 50 and 59; 2.5% between 60 and 69 years; 6 , 4% between 70 and 79 years, 13.2% for the over 80)

I guess it is best to show all the second part:

Warning: these data are very different from those on patients. There the average age is much, much lower. The data published on March 11, relating to 8342 cases, revealed that 424 cases, equal to 5% of the sick, were less than 30 years old. That coronavirus also affects children: 43 under 9 years of age, and 85 under 19 years of age. In short: even if the lethality rate increases hand in hand with age (0.1% between 40 and 49 years; 0.2% between 50 and 59; 2.5% between 60 and 69 years; 6 , 4% between 70 and 79 years, 13.2% for those over 80) the virus is seriously affecting even the youngest.

The fact that test kits are not readily available several months after the virus first appeared is almost criminal. Somebody really screwed up.

One thing to know: at least here and probably in many countries the testing kits come from China. I don’t know about the US sources, though.
So, if they stopped production and had shipping issues, it is probable that they are lacking or with delays.

More than that, yesterday there was a report here of an order from a PT company with around 5000 kits was lost in a French airport :zipper_mouth_face: Customs couldn’t locate it… :person_facepalming:
It will have impact on the number of tests that it is possible to do in the different hospitals here…

This is something to have in mind, specially when the “supplies” come from outside.
