This is not meant to be political (i believe thats a BLF rule), but its an interesting analysis of the costs of picking up a dropped penny, and the ending is hilarious!
I’m sure it cost more than a penny in time, electricity, internet access charge and wear and tear on my tablet to click on that link. ![]()
i found it a worthy read, well worth the penny in caloric brainpower used
I ALWAYS pick up a penny if I see one on the ground.
Here are my top 5 reasons to pick up a penny
1. It could be a lucky penny! (I can use all the luck I can get)
2. It could become the penny in my pocket that keeps me from getting 4 back in change.
3. I don’t ever want to be so cavalier about a penny that I won’t stoop over to pick it up. Next it will be dimes and quarters and more.
4. At my age, it’s good to stay limber, the stretch is good.
5. Number 5 is the best reason and my favorite. It’s tax free income, the IRS doesn’t know! ![]()
Drum roll……
The number 6 reason to pick up a penny:
6. If you have a dollar in the bank, you have just increased your interest rate by one percent. These days, that’s nothing to sneeze at.
Maybe we can get the full Letterman Ten, from the rest of the crew.
No. 7: bending over to pick it up gives you a better angle of view to admire that sexy backside you are following walking in the same direction as ![]()

You know what they say.
A penny here, a penny there (long pause) before you know………….you’ve got………2 cents! ![]()
I’m guessing Bort can think of another very good reason to pick up a penny, especially in a certain parking lot. ![]()
I just realized participating in forums has cost me untold millions of dollars.
In Canada we got rid of the penny.
We need to get rid of them in the US too.
The only place that I know where a penny will still buy something, is Home Depot:-)
Only sometimes:-(

I would have thought, by now, most of you would pick up the penny with “heatsink” in mind…
Hard to find any copper ones to pick up anymore:-(
Seriously - Unless I happen to see one while riding my bike, I always will pickup a penny.
Made a promise to myself that I would quit when I had all the money that I needed.
Still picking:-)

When I was a kid, candy bars were only a nickel. Even though my best friend and I had paper routes, he delivered the afternoon paper and I delivered the morning paper, we would sometimes ride out bikes into the center of town with NO money in our pockets. We did this on purpose, even though as kids went, we were both rich. We had paper routes, and a steady source of income. It was great fun for us to search sidewalks, parking lots, etc. for loose change. When we had enough for a soda or candy bar we would then take a break and enjoy the fruits of our efforts. Even though we had plenty of money at home those found pennies were precious and I believe it taught us the true value of money.
This morning, just after my previous post in this thread, my wife and I went out for a bagel and then onto the grocery store. She parked and headed into the store. I yelled over to her that I would meet her back at the car, I was going to walk down to the end of the mall to visit a Radio Shack. I had not been to one since the Bankruptcy. Instead using the sidewalk, I walked the parking lot. Just like the old days. I knew I could find a penny, and I did!

That must have been a lucky penny because when I got to Radio Shack I found a lot of stuff for 5 and 10 cents on the dollar. I will post that in a separate thread, all LED and light related of course.
But I will post this item here
Half price, includes the charger and I think the cells are going to at rated capacity. They are in the OPUS now to be charged and tested.

I was lucky because they were on sale from April 29 to July28. Actually the sale ended 2 weeks ago, but by law they had to honor the posted price. Had I brought all 3 packages they had to checkout, they would have had to sell all 3

See, that MUST have been a lucky penny!
This hollow pill took 3 pennies, a perfect ram them in there fit!

You’ll probably notice that I could have fit in a 4th one, but this was a budget build. ![]()
At my age, when I bend over, I make sure to pick up/clean/arrange everything within reach.
Because, at my age, it’s always possible that I may not bend this way again.
Indeed, and its a US only phenomenon ![]()
What this article doesn’t consider is the luck that you get from a penny that you pick up. That luck may get you a good deal where you get many more pennies in value.
indeed, i wish to cash in on this “investment”
Considering all the bad luck i have the pennies are more of a curse then a blessing.
In addition can you measure or quantify this luck?
