For anyone interested, I made a youtube teardown video of the “1300” lumen Duracell Flashlight that was on sale at Costco for $15. A lot of people complained that the light output was less than the 1000 and possibly 500 lumen versions. It has an interesting switch inside that turns on 3 extra leds in wide angle mode.
I can take close up pics of any components if anyone is interested.
Welcome and nice review.
lumenoutput on a aspheric lens light is always disappointing because of the great losses. They simply advertise with the lumens the LEDs produce and not what is coming out in real world.
Got one of these over Thanksgiving weekend… I have the Duracell 300, 500, 1000 and now this 1300 lumen light from Costco that I just had to pick up. As you mentioned in your video, it seems closer to the 500 and 1000 lumen models to my memory.
I’ll have to pull out the 500 & 1000 models and line them up side by side to compare.
The directions/owner’s manual says it’s compatible w/ alkaline and nimhs. I bought this light and returned it the next day. When I did a ceiling bounce test, the numbers on my light meter were lower than my 1075 lumens Coast HP550. And interestingly enough, my HP550 yields the highest reading on my light meter w/ the head pushed out for a tight spot. But when I did the same for the Duracell 1300, the reading was quite a bit lower than when it was on flood. Seems that the focusing head loses a lot of lumens when put on spot. And lastly, when I turned it on high, my lux reading was 44 or so. And then after 10-20 seconds, it ramped up to 66. Strange, and all the included alkalines had a good charge etc…
Meh, It’s super bright off start, floody to zoom, still haven’t tested it long term… just keep it by the back door for when the dogs are barking at night and to flood the backyard to see what’s up.
for $15 bucks on sale… it’s okay. would not buy again.
