If I fancy a small, nicely regulated flashlight (18350, 18650 or really small 21700 max) that could flood and spot with some style (e.g. 519a 5000K and SFT40 5000K) do they exist or do I need to look at the Emisar or Convoy? Does Emisar always use Anduril? Would I need some special TIR optics, different for flood and spot emitters so that the flashlight can both throw and flood semi-decently?
The Sofirn HS21 T-shape headlamp can almost do that already, but I wonder if there is a flashlight that could do that even better, perhaps, being a flashlight, with greater throw and similar colour, high CRI but narrower flood.
You might want to consider a flashlight with a single SFT70 emitter.
That’s my favorite emitter because it’s throwy and floody simultaneously.
If that doesn’t work for you, I’m interested in what others recommend to you (because I like throw and flood at the same time.)
The 3000K version is high CRI.
If there’s a 4000K version, I think it should be high CRI as well.
(I have the 5000K version because I’m not really into high CRI.)
I should note that the SFT70 does not throw nearly as far as the SFT40, so the SFT70 might not be the perfect solution.
A flashlight with an SFT40 and one or more floody emitters would be a better solution, but of course it would most likely be bigger to support the different emitters.
Small and throwing well is already a difficult combination; the additional requirement of a high CRI floody emitter makes a multi-emitter setup essentially a necessity, which further reduces throw. The only option I can think of is the Emisar D4V2 or D4K, with two 519A’s for flood and two W1 or SFT25R for throw, and 10621 optic for most throw and a good beam profile for the 519A’s.
