I have a flashlight(diy) with a H3 halogen bulb 55w,(watts), and the original battery on it is 6v 4ah(Lead acid),
the problem is, the Lead acid battery or the original battery of my flashlight is not working anymore. And the bulb is not so bright, fast to heat up etc…
Now, i want to change the Bulb of my diy flashlight into A H3 Led bulbs (same/diameter) with an input power of 70w and working voltage at 12v up
My question is, can i use/build a battery of 32650 with an 6a 6000mah each, with a total of 36000mah,. ( O think 6pcs-8pcs cells can fit into my flashlight case) What is the best BMS and protection board and chargers that are best/better on my diy flashlight? Please correct my post, if i forgot anything or maybe give me some tips/advices to achieve my desire battery pack for my diy flashlight, so that i can used it longer and without any worries.
Sorry, i mean for my diy flashlight, 70w h3 led lights, the battery could last enough even in a week or more b4 i could charge it, but it matters on the usage right? Basically, in my place, i used it daily 30min, and 1 hour. But that 1 hour is very rarely… could it be possible on a 6pcs 32650 could last in a week before to be charged again? Or maybe i go 8pcs
How much light do you really need?
55W Halogen gives you under 1500 Lumen - with the right LED you don’t even need 15W to achieve that.
Would you say twice as bright would be sufficient or do you want it to be way brighter than now?
And why is it not possible to charge the light every other night? Then you could do with a much smaller light like one of the Convoy 3X21: 3X21 series - Convoy flashlight depending on your need for flood or throw.
Do you need that brightness always or would it be fine to have the brightness you have now but a possibility to have a momentary Turbo mode for short periods where you need more?
I can’t send a picture of my lens of my flashlight,it is so big, my late father left it, he used it from search and rescue. i think i need much brighter Led so that it can throw far beyond than its normal bright on the halogen, bulb,. The dimensions of the lens are 5-8 inches round not sure
Wow, OK, so not directly a pocketable light
Do you need a very far throwing light or is it more important to see a lot in front of you? With a Reflector that big I imagine it has a rather thin beam?
I mean, there are lights like the Nitecore TM39 that would probably fit somewhat well I guess, but they are really expensive.
DIY with a 1:1 Replacement Bulb doesn’t work for long as mentioned, but you can surely try.
Just don’t buy crap from AliExpress but a reputable Brand!
A question, as I am not sure. Would you not need to use 3 cells in series for your 12 volts. To get the capacity you mention you would need 6 in parallel. That means 18 cells, doesn’t it. Do you have room for 18 32650 cells inside the light. If you have room, then getting the right BMS to handle that 3S6P configuration would be next… and figuring out how to fit that part into the light too. If you can’t send pictures, maybe you could take some measurements. Oh, and don’t forget figuring out how to get a driver . I doubt that the original driver would work if you want to put an additional 25 watts of power through it (like ~50% more than stock). Can you use the original driver and modify it. You have lots to figure out. It is hard for us to make a recommendation without lots more info.
As this question is about the cells to use, you need to first think about what you can even fit in the light. Get some measurements, check out the size of those cells, Design something that can physically hold them… go from there.
Thank you for you kind response sir… sorry I’m new in making Lifepo4/ lithium batteries. That’s why I’m posting it, but honestly, my English is very bad:pray:, and it’s hard to explain ether lol… Better to study more about this kind of projects… for better outcome right?.. anyways… thank you so much sir, i hope you can always help me on the future sir:heart:…
As i remember., this flashlight or spot light what ever they call it here in my place lol, honestly, it’s my first time seeing spotlight like this. This spotlight/flashlight,will throw a beam like what the big round of its lens itself, The cast of the light on this Halogen bulb and the help of the projector, it can throw far but not so sure, but it can reach 200m-500m. And the brightness, its pretty bright, but it’s kinda Very hot you know, you can’t even touch its Glass lens🥺 that’s why my late father can’t even use this for an hour even 30 minutes like this kind of search and rescue Lights,. The original battery itself is 6v 4ah.(Lead Acid).
Can you please help me sir or give some idea how to make it stronger? Make it last in 2-3 hours of continues of usage, or upgrade Continues discharge Rate that can last long, I want ot upgrade The Halogen bulbs 6v. 55 Watt to Led Lights, 6v-12v or something you can suggest, 6000k lumens or higher much better, the charging board itself, the Battery packs, like the best for this kind of Light, ether best for Lithium or Lifepo4 batteries etc…
If it helps, remember that to add voltages you need to put cells in series. If you want 12 volts, you can get close with three LiIon cells in series. Typically they are rated at 3.7 volts (3 in series = 11.1 volts). But most chargers will charge them to around 4.2 volts (3 in series = 12.6 volts). It is generally recommended that you don’t discharge them much lower than 3 volts (3 in series = 9volts). So I think you light might be pretty dim at the bottom end . To add capacity you connect the cells in parallel. to get the 36,000 mAh you want you need 6 6000 mAh cells in parallel. So you would need six stacks of three cells. I think commonly called 3S6P.
Those lights as I remember are direct drive. The bulb is connected directly to the battery through the switch. If you want to stay with the H3 and direct drive then all you need is the battery pack and to wire it in…after making sure it all fits (don’t forget space for a BMS.).
But be careful. Some of the light of that type had plastic reflectors. With 70 watts, you might melt it. Plus the life for the bulb will be very short.
I understand you wanting to do this, but for that light, it may not be worth it. You can just get a replacement 6 volt battery and continue to use it. Then look for a nice LED light for something with more brightness. If you want to DIY something, you can do that too. There are lots of good parts out there that you can get to put together a nice light that will outperform what you are thinking of doing with the old spotlight.
It’s not likely going to be worth the effort.
If you insist.
Replace the bulb. Temporarily splice some longer leads from the bulb positive and negative area. Connect to a car or motorcycle or whatever 12 volt battery to test the light output. Then determine if you want to move forward with battery and charging options.
You’re right, and i think it cost me too much for larger capacity of Battery pack with BMS and battery Protection board. but someday i will try it., if ever for my first time making an upgraded version, i will first try at a small amount of Voltage of Led like 3v-9v into it, a small Ampers on a Led, but not too much Voltage on the battery like 12v, i just want to experience d.i.y for a low cost, but, much better than what its factory finished ,. Thank you so much sir . God bless you always. Salute
Try any wurkkos and convoy with 21700 battery and then you can try slowly to buy parts for diy several 21700 in paralel driver with or without charging port/usbC charge module from AX work great
The led will need a heat sink you can even put a small 5v fan but then dirt becomes an issue…
