D1K vs DA1K with 70.3 Hi, which is superior?

In understand the D1/D1K gets a boost driver with the 70.3 Hi (and others).

I’m just wondering between the two lights, which has the better beam? Does one have significantly better sustained brightness? (unnamed boost driver vs Lume driver)

My use-case for the light would just be taking walks at night.

If you email Hank, the D1K can have the Lume X1 driver (same as the DA1K). It’s also available for appropriate emitters in the DM11.

The D1K and DA1K differ in throw. D1K is somewhat balanced, like an old-school plastic incandescent flashlight (but without the “awful” factor). The DA1K is closer to a mule with the default optic: wide beam with gentle fall-off. (I prefer the “slightly throwy” optic for the Da1k for walking at night).

I just tried the D1K/Lume X1 with GT-FC40 4000K for a night walk. It was surprisingly good: lots of bright spill, and a wide hotspot.

The D1K sounds like the best choice for me based on your description. I didn’t realize that the Lume driver was an option on the D1K. Was there an upcharge for the different driver?

How’s the tint on the GT-FC40?

No upcharge on the D1K or DM11 for the Lume X1. EDIT: No upcharge from Hank. I don’t know if Jackson has one.

My FC-40’s tint is fairly neutral (eyeballing it), but I’ve heard there’s a tint lottery. I have two FC-40’s in 1800K; one is rosy, and the other is… not.

I’ve found that only tint extremes will be noticeable outdoors (fog and snow being the exceptions).

Lume X1 is better than the standard boost.
D1K has a bit of throw, usable for 50-100m.
DA1K is way more floody and best for <50m.
