D4/D4S beam pattern

Do any D4/D4S/D4K lights have a nice spotlight beam pattern?

Ever since getting my 6P with optics I have been spoiled by the beam pattern. It creates a nice round spot with very sharp cutoff to spill. It is as close to a spot light as I have seen from any optic. IIRC it sports xp-g v1 so cannot buy the same combo today. My current D4 is 219b 4k, so I am looking at 519a dome or not to replace it. Thanks for the help everyone.

The D4Sv2 has a much better hotspot compared to the other D4 lights, but it is also substantially larger.

I don’t think any of the D4 lights are completely without artifacts outside of the hotspot unless there is a floody optic installed.

Maybe someone else can comment on which LED and optic combo gives the best hotspot.

My D4SV2 with narrow optic and SST20 4000K has a pretty clean tight hotspot.

Are you referring to the standard optic, or did you find another carclo optic and install it?

I consider my D4Sv2 hotspots to be nearly perfect, but there are “things happening” outside of the main beam that might bother someone who wanted more of a TIR lens experience. I use the standard optic, and I probably wouldn’t bother with the floody optic on a D4S because the extra throw it was separates it from the smaller D4 lights. However, I have D4v2 lights with E21a emitters and those look pretty horrendous without the floody optic.

P.S. this is not a rant, just info dumping quick lol

Update: Just realized that the Carclo Optics are technically TIR. I was thinking of single-lens TIR optics

Now that I think about it, It’s actually the optic that was in the D4Sv2 head that I got from you.
So I imagine it’s the standard optic.

My other D4Sv2 had the floody optic so I swapped it.

Or you get round die LEDs… check out the W5050SQ3 mod

The D4S optics are from ledil, carclo make the smaller (D4 family, DT8 family) optics.

I was hoping the D4S was better since I have 26650’s laying around and no host to put them in. It is a bigger head and different reflector, so probably does a better job of collimating light. I’m not looking for a perfect beam, but you can see just how much better it can be in the picture. My 6P does have a few bumps around the edges, but if I want better than that, I would need a LEP light. Can’t check on the kids at night very well with one of those.

I forgot I have an Astrolux MF01 with those leds and optics. They produce a nice beam with very minimal spill and sharp cutoff. I would like something with more yellow, so I may have to check out the D4S and 2700k sst-20.

Nice mods! And what a selection for flashlight rotation.

Looks like I need to do some catching up and find out what that led is.

Simon sells it, it’s very similar to (but not exactly the same as, IIRC) the yinding round die 5050s.
