While the world is waiting for the smaller version of the LT1, I just made one myself. Let me show you the
D4v2LT
It is based on an Emisar D4v2 with tint-ramping and LH351D 2700+5700 K. That makes it comparable to the big LT1. The rest was designed in FreeCAD and printed on a 3D printer. Thus right now in advance, the link to Thingiverse with all files and a short description how to print and assemble the parts: Emisar D4v2 Lantern Kit by SammysHP - Thingiverse
There is a base for a more reliable tailstand. The bottom side is hollow. Why, you may ask? A flat bottom might wobble on an uneven surface. The outer rim will be much more stable. Also you can glue in a foam ring! It has a cutout to allow the lanyard to be kept attached.
The diffuser consists of two parts: The outer diffuser which should be thin. The second part is the lid with a cone for better light distribution. Just stick or glue them together. Then it slips right around the bezel of the D4v2.
This mod is very comparable to the LT1, just smaller. Both use Anduril, boths have Samsung LH351D and tint-ramping (just don’t use turbo on the D4v2 or it will melt your diffuser). The aux LEDs are bright enough in low light environments and bring some colors into play.
That’s great. I will try it out. The link goes to the main thingiverse page, but I found the file manually.
What filament did you use? PLA or something flexible/transparent?
Very nice job there SammysHP! I wonder if it would fit the KR4? are they the same head diameter on the head? I don’t have a D4v2 so can’t compare them. Anyone know? if it is I’ll get my friend to print me one off.
Edit, apparently not the D4v2 Bezel diameter: 28mm and the KR4 is 28.8 mm - would like this confirmed if anyone has both please.
I have a D4sv2 and have found a few decent diffusers out in the wild . I use a piece of diffuser film flat on the lens first and then have added a scooper from an oxi clean container. Plastic lids off of babybottles work well because they already have a hole cut out of them and many of them have another pop on pop off cap.or something like this . Normally I just use the bottom piece and look for a better top that works better and still snaps on and off .
I still like a straight walled tube diffuser with or without a disc of diffuser film on the lens best because no matter how bright you turn up the power there's never that nasty glare blinding you.
You could probably make a case that there's light coming out the end of the diffuser but I find some light going up and ceiling bouncing as helpful or If the light is inverted than light coming down on a table or floor as being desirable as well .
The worst / most undesirable part of any lantern imho is glare ,primarily because it limits your ability to turn up the volume .
This one for the Q8 is nice because the ring is silicone so it really grabs the light .
