Damaged LED in Convoy?

Hello, I got a Convoy M21B with a B35am recently, and noticed the LED die doesn’t look quite right.

So my question is, is this type of damage worth trying to get it fixed/replaced by convoy? The light still turns on, but I wondering I’m losing some perfornance, of if the lifespan would be decreased with using an beat up LED.

Thanks!

Strange your M21B B35AM came with smooth reflector.

I would send the second picture to Simon in AE messages. He will probably offer a new MCPCB if you can solder it. If not, you will have to work something out.

I hope that 27 on the bottom is the person who assembled or QA’d the light

It looks like solder flux, which could be easy to clean by itself with alcohol + qtip. But the silicone layer over the phosphor looks damaged.

I expanded the photo to see it better. Thats really badly damaged. Physical damage.

Ditto. It’s sad that something so obviously bad could make it through Simon’s QC.

@firelane404, your best course of action is to contact Simon with the picture and ask for a resolution, he’s got a good reputation and I’m pretty sure he will solve it to your satisfaction.

One way or the other, please come back here afterwards and let us know how it went. TIA!

Ok cool! Message sent, I’ll let you guys know how it goes. Thank you!

The 27 refers to the CCT. 2700k.
I once bought several 519a from Simon in various CCTs and each one of them came marked for easy ID.

Looks like it was nicked with the soldering iron during assembly.

Have you tried to clean it yet with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab?
