In TLF they got it working with 1-2 x 26650/18650 (2x with the extention tube), also protected cells will match, or 2x 18350.

Uses 3 x 18650 flat top unprotected batteries which is a real shame for me as i point blank refuse to use unprotected cells and only using flat top cells is rather short sighted imho. Ah well maybe a V2 will address these issues.
All i use are unprotected cells, never had an issue.
The specs say over discharge protection and “overload” protection , does that mean discharge amps or charge volts?Anyway,it would need testing to guarantee it works , but , in principle ,and using a decent charger , I prefer protection in the torch and unprotected,lower internal resistance cells.I’ve even ordered a 20 pack of Seiko protection pcb’s from Ali Express to fit in line with drivers.Everyone has their own solution.
