It is called US Direct.
I got the email today, read about it here:
I made an order through that last week. Prices were a bit more expensive 12% I believe. Ordered last Monday, shipped Friday… Hopefully here in a few days.
They just don’t get it! What’s the sense of having a US warehouse if they let the order sits on a desk for 4 days. I live on the East Coast. If I order in the morning, I get NewEgg orders delivered the next day. Most Amazon orders I get in 2-3 days, unless of course they ship from China.
Both TMart (US warehouse) and now you are telling me, that DX (US warehouse) takes 5 days to even ship.
They are so behind what is going on right now. Amazon is the juggernaut that will eventually take almost all internet sales.
Proof? They may not be able to pull it off, but they are actually looking into doing it in 30 minutes. Now that’s attitude!
I foresee a railgun firing soft-cell foam lined shells containing the ordered product. All it would take is clear weather and some smart maths and I bet you could get the CEP down enough that you can land packages in people’s front yard.
That, or RC electric drones carrying packages in bays like a B2. Fly over destination house, drop package, package parachutes down to the earth.
like in the movie ‘Brazil’ but a whole lot bigger. Hell if they use existing storm drains, sewer pipes, telephone poles, all sorts of channels already exist to set up vacuum tube distribution terminations right through your roof or by your rain gutter spout.
I still like the idea of aerial delivery. A quadrotor, almost big enough to ride but not quite, to carry the cargo and have a decent delivery radius. Could increase the radius by using GPS-guided parasails. The US military uses them to drop cargo out of planes, in a miniature package that couldn’t be very expensive. Or you pay a deposit up-front and get it back when you mail the delivery unit back into Amazon.
Shipping actual products all over the globe? How quaint. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matter_compiler
It arrived today. Got my lens for hd 2010 and a giant freakin tube of fujik.
Though it did take 4 days to ship (thanksgiving week), still arrived quicker than most orders.
It does not appear to be a US warehouse, but rather a new shipping company that manages to deliver in under 7 days. Looks like the items still come from China, but the shipping is getting here much faster, without a huge premium for shipping charges, like the other shippers want. I would imagine, if this does go well, that most packages could get here in under 7 days. Might be worth the extra dollars in some situations.
I’m fine with paying an extra 10-15% for 7 day shipping. These month+ orders are decreasing my life expectancy.
I can’t wait until they start using drones for delivery. I’ll be sitting in my yard with binoculars and my 12 gauge waiting for them to fly over
Even if DX waits 5 days to ship thats still waaaaay better than waiting for it to come from china.
Follow the Amazon drone to its destination, wait for it to drop off the your package, THEN shoot it as it flies off. Bonus if you collect the wreckage and set up a small biz selling used drone parts on ebay.
dx lost my packs and my trust is slow and have also the highest prices if you dont consider dinodirect xD
hope that they will do better on that usa warhorse
I made an order 1/20/14 and they just sent a partial yesterday. I know, Chinese New Year, but to me, it’s still the same DX with 3 week or more delivery time. This is the first order from DX in over a year (FT, MtnElec & IS is where I’ve been ordering) and I don’t see a reason to give DX the business.
I think it’s good to have several options. Local suppliers are great and understand what it takes to compete in the US market but some things aren’t widely available and planning ahead can save a lot of money. 1st choice is local but sometimes you just have to suck it up and wait. Get your orders in now for the big build off. A few entries last year waited too long and we missed out on those projects.
Orders from the U.S. website (there is no U.S. warehouse) still take a month or more, but the prices are higher. Not a very useful option. (well, maybe it is for them, but not for us)
i ordered from the U.S warehouse a month ago and still nothing :(
From what I’ve seen (I’ve spent far too much time looking at their various items) prices can be higher or lower on the U.S. website by roughly $0.10 - $5. I only have the one order so far from their US site, but it took about 2 weeks from order to delivered (~5 days of that was between ordering and it being marked shipped).
They are so bad that I haven’t even bothered to order anything even though I have a $45.00 credit with them.
Now THAT’S bad!
If you have Prime, they let you keep the drone.
