I measured the PWM frequency of those lights mentioned in the first post. 126.7 Hz… rather low and annoying for most people.
Oh, and the strobe is 7.836247 Hz (give or take a smidge)
Here's the picture of the memory removal mod - the big resistor was added on top of the capacitor.
And the XR-E was indeed the smaller version EZ900. The C8 EZ900 one was in the middle, EZ1000 on bottom, XM-L disastrous dedome on top.

That dedome was unrelated :) it's there in the picture just in case anybody wants to compare XRE EZ900/1000 vs XM-L die size.
The XM-L was from the king which I tried to dedome from the front so I don't have to remove the heavily glued driver to access the led/reflector.
I let the king run for less then 5 minutes to heat the LEDs. Obviously I underestimated the king's heatsinking ability, the LED was not hot enough and the silicone peeled off together with the wires.
Luckily I had three $3.60 XM-L emitter stars from DD offer last time. :P

I ordered a couple of these with a price tag 10$ each (tracked) and i went to buy another one and the price is 500% percent up!! Now it costs 61.80$!

They generally do that when they are out-of-stock and don't want to remove the listing. (There is more to this, but I don't remember the specific reasons.) Price will come down when it's back in stock.
