I have two dental headlights. I am attaching the pictures. The issue is the second light is not bright enough. I use the same battery which is 3.7v and the driver is same ( I think). I did not see any driver chip in the headlight, so I think it is inside the battery case itself. The bright one is a branded one and the dimmer one is china made.
Can someone suggest ( given battery is same) a LED which can make the second light as bright as the branded one. Please suggest a LED with a 12mm chip, I am not great at attaching LED to the base chip.
Can you suggest any led? I do not know much technical things but willing to learn. XML or XPE not sure which to choose from. And where can i find a genuine 12mm LED?
Can someone suggest a compatible LED? I am not sure which to order. XML2 or XHp or XTE?Please help. The led looks like the one in this picture. 14mm or 12mm PCB board.
Our usual smallest boards are 16mm in diameter. You might be be able to custom request the sst-20 on a 14mm board from that company but shipping takes a while. My orders from them have taken 1-2 months with the standard $2 shipping.
The LED will also change the beam’s size a little bit. Maybe a bit wider or a bit narrower, I don’t know, but it’s a really good LED which has 95 cri meaning very accurate colour representation.
You’ll probably also want some thermal paste to ensure the LED stays cool or maybe even some thermal adhesive to help keep the LED stuck in place if the optics don’t keep the LED in place. Make sure the LED is centred as best you can before applying glue.
I’m not the most knowledgeable so please chime in if anything I’ve said is incorrect.
You can get expedited shipping from Kaidomain for $18 which might help if you need it soon, but I don’t know how fast it is.
mtnelecronic.com sells 12mm xp boards, as well as xml2, xpg2 and 3, xpl and xpl2, sst20 and 40, nichia 219, but i could not find any led mounted on 12mm board, but i’d email the site owner (he is also member of this forum) and ask if he could reflow a led on that board for you, it would work with any xp led, as well as nichia and sst20.
do you actualy use the light for dental work? if so i’d go with nichia 219 it has the best color rendering index, if you do not use it for dental work, go for cooler colors, like 5000-6500k they are usually a bit brighter
Thank you for the reply. of all the models of LED you guys have mentioned (xml2, xpg2 and 3, xpl and xpl2, sst20 and 40, nichia 219,) which one do you think I should order? I read XML2 is good but I was not sure if it it a good fit for the dental headlight. For me the brightness is important over the color. Definitely prefer 4000k to 6500k colors.
If you only care about brightness then you want a 3V XHP 50.2 but it’s going to look ugly. If you’re using it for dental work then I suspect you’ll want colour rendering which means the SST 20 in 4000K might be the best choice
It depends on the lens. It looks like the light has an optic not a reflector so the size of the led might be important. The name brand led looks like a XML2 in cool white, and the Chinese one looks like either a Latticebright or some other xml knockoff in warm white. Since you are switching out an XML2 size led, I recommend you stick with it since it might effect the beam negatively. They do make smaller mcpcbs for 5050 size leds and neutral white XML2. If you want high cri, then it’s either Samsung LH351D, sst20, or Nichia 219. I personally recommend the LH351D. It’s a 3535 size led like the Sst20 and Nichia.
no one asked this but, are you using the same battery block with a driver for both lights? or each one has its own? cuz the reason the other led is dim may not be the led itself . also those screws seem like a half butt job, and it does look like one of them shorts on a led solder contact
