Detatched/ Torn Retina in the Eye

My brother had his retina partly detach in one eye from the recoil of his vintage model Sharps rifle. (The gun that made the West safe for Winchester.) There is nothing they can do about it he just lives with it.

All the best, hope it goes well for you.

Long history seeing a local retina specialist for a tear that healed on its own, when there was a sudden loss of vision he was able to see us as soon as his office opened, and that afternoon surgery by the best doc in the country at the UCLA Doris Stein eye center.

Keep on top of it, follow instructions to the T, and hope for the best, hope for the best doc. Many are not retina specialists, trained mostly in lasik type stuff, so make sure you get a good one.

Good luck.

Dang, sounds like it hurt. I hope you make a full and speedy recovery. Good luck man!

My pops tore his retina playing soccer as a teen and now he only has one functioning eye. Took him a while to get used to seeing things without depth perception.

Hope things go well for all you guys with eye injuries.

Wills Eye institute is the oldest continually operating eye care facility in the U.S.A. that started in 1832.

Since 1990 it has consistently been ranked one of the best Ophthalmology Hospitals in the United States by U.S. News and world report.

So, if you happen to be visiting Historical Philadelphia and have an unfortunate eye injury, You know where to go!

Hope all of you have your vision restored.

I would be remiss if I did not include some historical medical achievements!

Medical achievements

Wills Eye has pioneered many techniques in the field of ophthalmology, including:

Artificial intraocular lens implant (1952), Warren Reese, MD and Turgut Hamdi, MD

Invention of a vitrectomy machine (1972), Jay Federman, MD

Artificial retinal implant (2009), Julia Haller, MD, Allen Ho, MD and Carl Regillo, MD

So it’s been 3 weeks since the surgery. What I had done was a vitrectomy, it sucked. Your kinda awake but not completley coherent. It hurt like a bitch for a few days after, my eye was swollen shut. My vision is back in my eye although it’s still pretty blurry. I had a follow up a few days ago and the doctor still would not clear me to go back to work. So I’m still on reduced lifting and that sort of stuff around the house. I have to go back again next week for a 4 week check and hopefully I can go back to work. Just in time to get a paycheck or 2 before Christmas. Good thing I don’t have any kids yet or Christmas would be a little crappy. I’m currently riding the employment insurance train and collecting about 50% of my normal pay.

On a lighter note. I’m back in the garage slamming mods like nobodys business. Lathe is all fixed up again after have the motor re-wound. I’ve almost finished the 1D stubby MKR for myself and I have 3 2d mags to do before Christmas. Maybe now I can finally move all these projects from my computer desk out to the garage and make them happen.

My fingers are still crossed for you!

Thanks for the update Gtamazing. All the best for a full recovery. Dont do what I did on pain killers while your modding away. Sounds like your making the most of your time of work though. Dont keep the pictures of your mods to yourself. Hint hint. Cheers.

This can take some time, you may need a new Rx on glasses, nobody cheaper I know of than Zenni Optical, plus they can do all the weird lenses.

Best of luck, think LONG term.

You'll be fine but no heavy lifting. Or you could pops stitches for 6 weeks you will have reduced night vision and field of view and depth perception but it's better than the alternative? I lost my new job completely as I was still on probation but I ended up with a better job anyway now watch for cataracts in the next 10-15 years in that eye,may I ask are you are type1 diabetic?,

Wish you a speedy full recovery.

Is Zenni optical still around?! Haven’t come across their “deal” in quite a while, like several years.

www.zennioptical.com BF deal is boho2013 buy one, get one half off. During this eyeball adventure we have purchased about 5 pairs of high index high RX glasses two of them photogray. We were in a hurry on one pair, so stopped at Lens Crafters, almost $700 in frames that were nothing special, but the kicker was that it would take several weeks due to the Rx. $165 shipped in 1.67 photogray and got them sooner from Zenni than projected from Lens Crafters.

Best sale from Zenni is BOGO, but not recently.
