First, we are in a very low crime area and our next door neighbor is renovating so there is nobody home.
About an hour ago (11sh pm), my wife and I were sitting in the family room, watching a movie when we heard a small thump….
As is normal, we’re not sure if it’s real or imaginary or caused by any house movement.
About a minute later, another thump. Like someone hitting something with their body. Like someone trying to force a door.
Now it’s real….
She reaches for the phone to call 911, I move quietly to the front door to put my shoes on, then she whispers, get your flashlight, meaning the Q8. Frack….she’s thinking clearer then me.
Bolt out the door, move fast with the light on full power. She’s got 911 on the line, I’m moving quickly around both houses……NOTHING. Well, there was something, a rabbit. Really, a rabbit, we’re swimming in them, kind of funny, but not really.
Great, nothing beats even the smallest something. No sign of intruders anywhere. Check his doors, check everything, no sign of attempted forced entry either.
Despite my wife telling 911 everything was clear, the cops showed up. Fine with that and that is good. Our taxes at work.
After I calmed down….the big takeaway from all this is….I got the Q8 as a $45 toy. My post in this forum before this reflect the “wow, nice toy”, but now realize that it’s so powerful, there is no mistaking it’s overwhelming PRESENCE. Never mind the fact that it lit up both houses and I could see many houses over. More importantly, it’s a HUGE warning sign that someone is coming so RUN. Sure, we’re all macho man that can beat everyone up with a pinky, or can bring out the 1911 for some Dirty Harry action….but in reality, the absolute best course of action is simply avoid confrontation entirely.
A very powerful flashlight can be that PRESENCE and do that. Unless of course you are dealing with a level of crazy.
We have plenty of normal box store flashlights in the house, so there was no “real need” for the Q8, but after tonight, it is no longer “just my toy”, it’s getting a brother (SP36) and one of them is going to be a permanent resident in the bedroom.
A bit too much unwanted excitement, a lesson learned and all’s well that ends well…
