Thinking of buying a convoy s21g or a s6. Only convoys i ever had are a couple s2+. they both are 12 mode that reset themselves to factory settings every 1-7days. Completely unreliable and useless lights to me with this defect. Are the modes still resetting?
I have six 12-group Convoys at home, none of them have this behaviour.
Yeah, I have at least a couple of 12-group Convoys, and they don’t reset themselves to factory settings over any period of time.
That said, I prefer Convoy lights with side e-switches, and they don’t have 12-groups.
Never heard of this problem before. I currently have 38 Convoys and at least 20 of them use the 12group driver. Never had a single malfunction with them.
Same here. I have a bunch of those drivers, and none of them ever showed any memory loss so far.
I have at least 20 lights with Convoy 12mode drivers and have built more than 20 other lights with Convoy 12group drivers and I’ve never seen this before.
I have heard of this phenomenon a couple of times over the past several years but I think it was resolved a long time ago.
I’ve owned ~200 Convoys over the last few years, most of them 12-group, and I haven’t encountered this problem. I’m sorry that you did, but it sounds exceedingly rare, and I wouldn’t worry about seeing it again.
I have at least two that exhibit that behavior but they’re old and I only use them here and there. But to answer your question and as evidenced by other forum members, the fix was applied.
Wow, that’s impressive!!!
That reset bug was fixed about 2 years ago. It was a horrible bug that only occurs when you don’t switch the light off before loosening the tailcap. Some people reported a work-around by disabling mode memory.
I purchased 40x C8+'s and had to swap out the drivers, I wasn’t too happy with Simon about that.
Ive heard about loosening the tailcap while on before. This was 100% not what was happening with mine, the cap was always tight, light was always off when changing batteries and mode memory always off. It would reset to default every couple days. Simon sent me a free replacement that did the exact same thing. This was in 2020
You shouldn’t have to, but unless you’ve got soldered-in drivers, it’s fairly straightforward to replace them.
Might even be worth asking or ordering when you’re buying the S21G/S6?
I dunno about that…it’s just a cheap way to sample tons of different emitters if you don’t know how to solder electronics and stuff. I’ve resold a lot of them (sometimes in bundles because one cheap flashlight may not be worth the trouble to auction and ship by itself.)
Yeah, well, loosening and tightening the tailcap while on would reset it every single time, so it was related. It was a quick way to know whether you had the buggy driver. I’m a Convoy reseller so it was handy to be able to do that without having to use it for a while.
I just did this and it reset the modes, never knew this was a test for bad driver.
