About a year ago when the biscotti driver first came out, I bought a whole bunch of them because they were sort of my ideal 7135 driver (thanks TK for the great UI!). After I received them the problem was found that they have the wrong fuse settings so that PWM was twice too fast and there was some other less than ideal behaviour, nothing detrimental but it was not the ideal driver and I never used them (this is OCD-related stuff, I know).
But Simon continued selling the batch with the wrong settings, and they also appeared at Banggood, and both sites never mentioned when or even if the version with correct settings was sold. So for a year now I have not dared to buy my ideal 7135 driver again and now, a year further down the road there is still no mentioning anywhere if what I buy has the correct firmware.
I think this is annoying, not neccessary and bad for business (at least with me). Is there any information out there if Simon’s biscotti drivers for sale at this moment (all versions!) have the correct firmware now? I’m pretty sure that Banggood’s drivers are still the wrong ones, but Simon himself should be sorted by now, right??
I can’t exactly answer the questions you placed djozz, but I’ve noticed some things on the Convoys S2+ I bought from Simon and some maybe 6 or more drivers (with different number of chips) I bought from him as well.
This is what I noticed: after entering the programming mode, when the light begins to “blink” to choose the modes, in some drivers - those with less 7135 chips (3 or 4) - the “space” between the blinks are faster than those with 6 or 8 chips.
Sometimes is difficult to select the modes on those drivers, as they blink so fast that we almost miss the mode number we want.
Don’t know if this is in any way related to what you are asking, but I verified this in several lights, as I used the Biscotti to mod them.
About PWM, I didn’t notice any difference between the “stock” lights and those modded with the drivers, except for that issue I mentioned above. BUT, I only have a cell phone to see the “coloured stripes”, in close-up photo.
Thanks MB! I have not used these drivers long enough to notice those things and I am also not sure if it may be related to those fuse settings, or that it is a different side-effect from the biscotti firmware. Perhaps other people have more info and knowledge about this.
