Dropped eneloop outside and it rained, any special treatment needed to prevent damage?

Enquiring minds wanted to know…

a reasonable if vague answer

I seem to recall an incan hotwire caused death on CPF. It was a NiMh death and I think Eneloop. Multiple cells were used in a battery holder in serial to get required voltage and the cells were pushed to the max. Even then the construction of the holder led to suspects being shorting or resistive heating in the holder itself. End result was a couple damaged cells and a dead holder but it didn’t even build enough pressure to cause the light to “fail with a boom.”

I’d look for it but it was from before the great database death so the info may not even exist anymore…

Had an application that needed to charge the batteries in a very few minutes… wanted to know what happened if the protections failed.

sounds almost too simple, but pour some table salt in a shallow dish, and put the battery in there for a few days….salt is a desiccant….

tear open a few of the silica gel packs that come with almost everything, and put the silica gel inside an airtight battery holder for a few days
