The banggood light arrived today and i needed a place to store two eneloops while i was working so i used its envelope, and it fell out when i brought everything in. It landed on the neighbour’s lawn and i just found it somewhat encrusted in dirt and wet, it has rained pretty hard for the last 6 hours.
Its the first generation(?) with the vent holes in the positive end. It still measures 1.37V
Aren’t these things pretty much watertight? They don’t have vents like li-ions and it wasn’t subjected to any kind of pressure from submersion.
However, like slim said, rice would be good if you’re feeling a bit cautious or stick it in a ziplock bag with some of those “do not eat” silica packets you get with a lot of electrical stuff and food.
If it were me I’d just charge them, the slight warming would dry up whatever moisture was around it
Aren’t they cheap enough to avoid all “risks” and buy new ones?
I just bought 3 packets of em and changed all household remotes and whatnot to Eneloop AA batteries, sick of crappy Alkaline batteries leaking and killing stuff!
The seals on these cells are water and air tight… unless some fault caused the cell to rupture. A little rain (or even a lot of rain) is not going to hurt them.
As long as it takes a charge and lasts as long as it did before I think you're fine. Has anybody heard of an eneloop catching fire or exploding? I haven't
