Durable over ear headphones wanted

Looking to buy a set of over the ear headphones, any recommendations on a durable good sounding pair. Prefer metal on the over the head part. Nothing over $100, preferably $30 to $40, no fashion brands. Have found a few very highly rated for sound models but the construction is all plastic and fragile looking.

Senheiser makes a great pair of overear headphones. I still have my Hd201’s from years ago that I got for under $20.

Blows away the overpriced ($80?!) skull candy crap one of my relatives bought.

Sony MDR-7506. It's a padded top, but it's very durable. The ear pads can be replaced when they start to get nasty. They sound good, which means it doesn't boomy exaggerated bass.

I support you choice, I have some HD485’s which I bought from someone, still work good as new, I changed the pads though.

I had a set of AKG K240S cans for many years. They eventually developed a slight voice coil rub, but they were otherwise indestructable. The AKG headband with the two flexible metal rods is really tough. I have owned a lot of headphones, but nothing as tough as my AKGs. My last set of cans was Sennheiser HD580. They sound good, but have a flimsy plastic headband and the foam rotted real quick.
Last week, I broke down and bought the cans I’ve wanted for years, AKG Q701 Quincy Jones in lime green. If they last as long as my K240S did, I’ll be real happy.
These cost me almost $200, but AKG has much cheaper models with the same great construction.
AKG full size cans are the most comfortable phones I’ve ever used. I can wear them for hours.

I too have a pair of Sennheiser HD-201s. Best bang for buck at the time.

But I mostly use Koss KSC75s. I have 2 pairs, one for the office, and one for home.
Not over ear, not sturdy, but nice to use.
They’re light enough to use with a portable mp3 player.

It depends on what do you want to use them for. But as universal choice I can recommend you the KOSS SPORTA PRO as I have had them for over 9 years now. They sound great and are more durable than popular PORTA PROs. I also have Denon ah-d1100 that were around $170 (and are fragile as porcelain) but I use my sporta pros more often and I still like them.

I also bought the Sony mdr-zx100 as a gift once and I have returned them as they sounded so bad. I bought KSC75 instead and these are great! The clip sometimes falls off but it is easy to press it back onto the driver. I can recommend these too.

I have a set of 20 dollar Sony’s that I use with my metal detector. They sound way better than the $300 wireless headphones for the Whites V3i. I even bought another pair just for the drivers.

I don’t know if it is durable but I use the Koss KSC75 too coz I just find it so comfortable. For the price, the sound is just great and if you are into mods, you can perform the Kramer mod for even better SQ.
my other to go headphone is the Yahama HPH-200 which has better SQ than most headphone I have heard, but I take care of my audio gear so, for durability I have no idea.

Checking out all the suggestions. Has to be durable as it’s easy to find reviews on which are the best sounding but not much in the way of durability.

sporta pro

A couple of the suggestions here are used heavily in the pro audio industry because they sound honest and are very durable.

Sennheiser

I haven't tested the Koss SportaPro, but I am a long time user of Koss PortaPro. I have ruined 2 pairs during the last 20 years, by stepping on one pair and catching the cord and pulling it off on the other. I have one pair in use and two as spares.

Surprisingly good sound, but no isolation at all. And people nearby may be disturbed by leaking sound. I use in-ear buds when I don't use the KPP. I also have some other headphones, many times more expensive than the KPP, but I rarely use them.

I have the koss ksc75 and it is great!, the best sound for the price.
I am thinking to buy the sennheiser px100 ii (more than double of the price of the ksc75) and worth the money? The px100 ii are much better than the ksc75?

Anyone looking in to getting a good pair of headphones on a budget should look in to the different offerings from Superlux. They might not be the fanciest looking headphones (plastic) and I don’t know about the durability but they do sound really good considering the price you pay. When I am by the computer I actually prefer my Superlux 668B to my Sennheiser HD600, mainly because they are cheap and I don´t feel I have to be as gentle with them as my expensive Sennheisers, but they also are a bit more “fun” with their little bump in the bass. The highs might be a bit to much but if you have a way of controlling it you can get some great sound for a small amount of money.
On my pair I have changed the earpads and the headband and they are really comfortable now, no trouble wearing them for hours. Try them!

The nuances of a sweet gentle symphony are mere memories to my battered and abused ears, but for sheer ruggedness and pretty good sound you might want to drop by your local building supply place and check out the Stanley earmuffs with built in speakers.
They offer about 25 dB of sound blocking with sound as good as I’m still able to appreciate. I can even listen to my music while pushing a lawn mower, and they work well with my metal detector. For Vivaldi maybe not so much, but I’m no longer a good judge of that.
Bright yellow and ugly, but fairly compact and transportable, and tough as nails.

MKBHD did a review of under $200 headphones

His top choice is just over your price at $119

I rate my Grado SR80 highly as well open back but pure natural sound no good if you want a bass heavy sound though

ATH-M50’s are what I’ve found to be the best bang for the buck in my research. There is a ton of info out there about them, and you can find them on special for $99 sometimes. I plan on purchasing a set this year and will probably drop the coin on these.

Because of you guys, I bought the sennheiser hd202s  In the mail now. Can’t wait to hear them!
