I am about ready to toss mine in the garbage, i cannot get them to fully charge with a smart charger (bc700), they keep terminating every few minutes, on the lowest 200 mA charge. I have 4 of them and they all act like this
Do i have a bad batch, or does everyones do this?
Edit: I’m starting to wonder if they can only be charged with a dumb charger that would ignore the termination voltage changes
Why such a low amperage…….i have those cells and even at 5 years old they still hold a pretty good charge. Try discharging them and upping the amperage to 1.5 amps. The only cells that i ever had problems with were the Titanium 2100 LSD’s and the Energizer 2500mah cells that i used in my RC remote.
at 500ma they terminate in under 5 mins, i’ve tried it at every charge level from 0.9V to 1.3V
these do not hold their charge more then a month, sometimes only a day or two
i’ve had a bit better success charging them at 200mA when they are down to 0.9V
interestingly i have some of those energizers that are 6 years old and they charge fine, they just don’t hold a charge very long, a few days to weeks
Lol they sucked when i went to the track an my radio died on me……good thing my rx had a fail safe when it lost the radio’s signal. Does it do it to any other batts in your inventory or just those.
just these, my rayovacs can’t take 500ma charging, but at 200ma they charge and terminate fine, it takes takes a long time
no eneloop problems, no surprise
I am not familiar with that charger, but i do know that a couple of years ago they would catch fire and or kill the batts, the Wrapper of the cell would actually shrink, overheating was a problem with that charger back then. I guess its time to recycle the 2650’s, is there a break in function on the charger.
yeah, i’ve done it many times on these batteries, refresh i think its called, i guess these are just duds, they have less then a dozen non refresh discharges on them since they never worked from before i had a smart charger
i don’t like getting rid of barely used batteries, but i think they are a lost cause
Well you can always give it to someone, since it might work with a dumb charger……i have an old eneloop charger that my batts came with that might work. Dont know where you live but the charger might work for you.
Nitecore i4 seems pretty dumb. I had two cells, a GP AAA and a Sanyo AA 2700 that wouldn't charge with any other charger, including Eneloop, GE, Energizer, Garmin and LaCrosse. They charged with the i4 though. The only problem is my i4 is that it's too dumb to finish charging cells all the way. It'll stop and I have to manually restart them at least once.
Have you tried charging other batteries on this charger? I had a charger that would terminate early. And it was not only annoying. But I almost ruined my batteries on several occasions because the one it happened to terminate early would go dead before the others. If you are getting the same early termination with other types of batteries, it’s likely you have a bad charger.
One more thing. Can you charge at, say, 1000-2000mA? Slow charging might seem like a minder and gentler thing to do to your batteries. But it can sometimes actually cause problems with termination. That’s why most smart chargers generly charge at a higher rate.
Reading up on that charger i think it can only go as high as 700.
Specifications:
Charges Battery Types: AA/AAA NiCd and NiMH
Input Voltage for AC/DC Adapter: 100-240 VAC (works only with included AC/DC Adapter)
Charging Current Range: 200 mAh, 500mAh, or 700mAh
Max Charging Capacity: 3000 mAh
I’ve charged hundreds of times on this device, with at least 7 different brands and types of batteries, it only goes up to 700mA, but the termination is even faster at high currents for these batteries
other batteries work fine, but each model has its quirks, the best i’ve found are eneloops and duracell lsd 2000 mAh
Then i would just stick with those then……if you did not live so far i would love to send you the charger….since its not being used. Makes a good travel charger, i will find out how much cost would be on monday.
I just have to wonder how these batteries would charge on a Maha charger. I don’t have any Duracell 2650s. But I have some Powerex 2700s (which are said to be the same cells). And they charge fine. Maybe the batteries just don’t agree with the charger.
