Easy aux LED "ring"

I haven’t seen something like this before so I thought I’d share what I did today. I previously modified a Wurkkos TS10 from a triple to a single (sort of a pocket thrower with a TIR). In doing so, I lost the ability to use aux LEDs that were integrated into the stock MCPCB. Today I fixed that with what I’d call an “aux ring.”

I bought this 3v, 0603 LED strip:

Basically, it’s a strip of 0603 LEDs already soldered together. The LEDs are about 7.5mm apart. You can cut the strip anywhere, and you can solder your driver wires on anywhere on the strip. I just soldered my driver wires next to existing LEDs.

This technique could work well if you’re unable to use a stock aux board, like on my TS10 mod, or if you’re wanting to add aux lights to a light that doesn’t have them - for example, I plan to mod a D1V2 by converting it to a TIR and pulling power for the aux from the lighted switch.

Here I am testing it. Note I had mixed-up the red and black wires when I soldered them to the driver. Also, I ended up using a longer piece of aux strip for the final mod.

Here it is installed on the light. There is, relatively speaking, plenty of room to have this hovering above the body of the light but still sits in the empty space between the TIR and the bezel.

How it looks in the dark. This is an early version TS10 with the ‘aux no LVP bug.’

Lastly, the pattern.

Thanks for sharing with us, it’s very cool mod.

Great to see you can buy such strips, nice mod.

This has be done several times, but I think it really started after a mod for the FWAA by @thefreeman.
