I’m getting ready for the arrival of my 2 battery L6 XHP70.2 order in terms of protected and unprotected batteries. I’ve done some research on this topic. :student: So from what I understand…
When using PROTECTED,
- use same brand battery
- always reuse same brand battery
use for 8 Amps or less flashlight
When using UNPROTECTED,
- always monitor discharge voltages
- use same brand battery
- always reuse same brand battery
use for 10 Amps or more flashlight
Anything else I need to be aware of?? I don’t want my L6 becoming a roman candle. Halloween is way over.
Keep them together (a.k.a. Matched) and do not use one cell for another light to use it later on in the L6.
The cells can be used together in another light as long as you use exactly those cells together.
I use the Shockli 5500mAh button-top and I swap which one is at the head with every charge cycle, since my modded L6 gets quite hot up top.
But yes, keep them paired, don’t use them separately for anything else, charge them together too.
I actually have two pairs, for L6 and SP70. I have a separate single for my Z1. I also have a married set of 4 18650s from my MF02.
Okay yeah now I’m getting it. Plus I’ll alternate between pro and un/pro when my batteries get here according to said rules. Boy good thing I’m keeping a flashlight log book now.
The catch-22 about matching a pair, I’ve read, is that over time cells will age at different rates, and once they start to drift apart even if originally identical, you can end up matching them when they’re both discharged and still have them charge unevenly and end up measurably different.
I dunno any way around that. Time will tell if it matters much.
