I’m just getting into electric scooters, bikes, unicycles etc. I’m not talking about the kid scooters that go 10-15 mph but the ones that go 40-69 mph!! Anyone here ever use an electric unicycle or scooter. This place Ewheels has some pretty far out rides.
My son had a One wheel (imagine a skateboard with a single fat wheel inside of it) for a while. He said the thing clips right along. He used it as a commuter vehicle for a while but that if it lost power for any reason you eat pavement. I can’t speak for anyone else, but if I’m going 20 mph down the road, I’m not interested in eating a curb.
Been looking at the Mercane Widewheel Pro to keep in my campervan, but U.K. law doesn’t allow road or pavement (sidewalk) use. Handy on sites or if we get to take the vehicle abroad to travel Europe.
Yeah I seen riders with the single fat wheel one. Just not my style atm. Those are good for off road too.
That Mercane wide wheel looks fun and I heard that it gives a different feel when turning.
I’m wanting to use one for scooting around the neighborhood during the day but really want to go off the beaten path with one of these at night. That would be so fun at night plus it gives me a reason to finally use one of my flashlights to light up the way!
For example, let’s say you get up at 1 am for washroom or whatever and can’t go back to bed. Then I would hope on one and cruise the neighborhood at night just exploring and stuff or hit the local park with trails and just cruise around checking things out.
I haven’t gone the e-vehicule route yet but keeping an eye on options… and watching prices.
Last summer i could rent an electric offroad motorbike for a couple hours. Went on a dirt track, open fields and a regular road with it. Considering it cost 8k+ euros, i was very disappointed. I would have been better on a regular 50cc with a muffled exhaust for less then half the cost.
However, i’m quite impressed with the “standing scooters” that became very popular over here - we call them “trotinette électrique”. I see some passing by at a very descent running speed or faster, even on the hills.
Electric unicycles and hover boards are quite fascinating too… but probably less practical?
I had a friend who owned an e-bike and e-skateboard. I think he built them from e-vehicle parts (not from scratch).
I’d probably go for a bike if I could use it as a commuter vehicle. I’d never go for an e-skateboard because I’d fear eating pavement if anything happened. As things are now though, my bike is supposed to be for exercise, and an e-bike would defeat that. Not that I can afford one anyway, currently.
I have been using an electric unicycle since 2014.
It is my primary means of transportation along with a car. (probably 50-50)
They combine very well, for longer distances I use the car and when I reach the edge of the city/town I am going to where traffic begins and parking becomes harder, I park wherever convenient and switch to unicycle.

It is tons of fun even without doing 45mph.
it does look fun for sure. Good for practicing balance. I’ve been wanting to kit my city bike with a bafang kit. When i price it out it, it’s around 1500 so hesitating to jump on it as it is more of a nice to. it would be great for the steep hills and pulling my son in trailer.
