Has anyone experienced got defective product from emisar? This is my 1st purchase. Im very disappointed. There’s like some oil stained with finger prints i cant clean this, the stained is like permanent..
You can remove the surface oxidation with a metal polish like Brasso.
The Convoy lights in your photo have a coating that prevents natural oxidation.
Hank lights do not have such a coating, and will develop a natural patina.
Totally normal. Whoever assembled it had thin film of oil on their hands (like we all do.) The oil came off on the metal. They the oxidation took place, also normal. Most copper and brass lights are not coated (like this one) so it will patina with time.
Get some of these and polish it. It should clear it right up.
FYI, Convoy puts a clear coat on their copper and brass. It will not develop a patina unless you strip that clear coat.
Hank does not use a clear coat. So, his lights will start to develop a patina very fast. Especially if you use it often. The oils in your skin help with that patina
Unless you want to put that light in a display case you will lose the fight to keep it polished and shiny. That’s just the way it is with copper and other base metals.
It’ll polish up fine if you want shiny. I like the pocket worn patina that develops over time. Occasionally I’ll get the Brasso out and get them all back again.
It’s not defective. Being uncoated is a feature. It means you can give it a patina and make it look nicer.
I’d recommend polishing it with a sunshine cloth, then maybe using something to accelerate oxidation, like I’ve used Palmolive dish soap for this purpose… and then lightly polish it again to make the surface brighter while the recessed areas stay darkened. Maybe also just hold it a lot to give it more texture.
I don’t think you have a real issue there. It’s uncoated copper and that’s just some patina from the oil on the hands of whoever put it together. It could easily be cleaned off.
