Emisar D4S review

Yeah that’s the problem.

Here are the various pluses and minuses of each emitter:

1. SST-20 5000-6500k 70CRI

  • Best throw
  • Best compromise between lumens and throw
  • Good efficiency.

- Bad tint.

  • Bad color rendition.

2. XP-L HI 70CRI

  • Great throw. Less than the SST-20 5000k-6500k though.
  • Most lumens and effiency. Not enough difference between the SST-20 5000k-6500k to even actually matter.
  • Best 70CRI tint, and best tint on a white wall.
    -Bad color rendition.
  • Most expensive, both for the seller and the buyer.

3. SST-20 95CRI 3000-4000k.

  • The same throw as the XP-L HI 70CRI.
  • Absolute marvelous color rendition.
  • Good tint.

- More heat than the 70CRI emitters.

  • Not as good tint as the XP-L HI, but still good.

4. 219C 5000k 90CRI

  • Floodiest emitter.
  • Great color rendition.
  • Decent tint.

- Floodiest emitter. Not good for a usability in a small light.

- Worst emitter in terms of heat and efficiency.

  • Gets too hot.

Great!

What about batteries?

That was helpful bro, thanks a lot.

If I’m looking for brighter one, and want it for outdoor journeys ?
What you prefer?

I would recommend the SST-20 4000k version then.

Excellent color rendition, which is very good for outside, and since it can throw light well, the brightness difference is masked a bit.

My D4S XP-L HI 3A is my most used light. Perfect amount of light close and can throw a good distance also. Has long run time with the 26650.

The magnet is very useful although I hate how it latches on and drags ferrous objects with it on occasion.

I keep it close at night and usually it’s the first one I grab.

As TK says it’s a little big and heavy for pocket carry.

I agree with your selection, since that is the same D4S that I selected. It has a fairly white beam without being at all green or blue. While it doesn’t have a great CRI, it does portray green and browns well enough which is most important for outdoor use. It doesn’t do well with reds or orange, but you aren’t looking at those colors so much, except, perhaps in the fall. The XP-LHi LEDs run noticeably cooler at higher brightness levels than the higher CRI LEDs, so what you lose in color rendition, you make up for it in heat handling and battery life.

I ordered mine with two caps, so that if I needed the magnetic cap, I would have some flexibility. However, I haven’t yet used it.
So I carry it with the plain cap usually in a sweater or jacket pocket. I keep the lanyard attached. Wh

I wish I had someone nearby willing to even swap a 4k XP-L HI MCPCB for a 4k or 3k SST20 MCPCB. Worst comes to worst I could just order one from hank.

Well, I was tired of reading about this light and just ordered one. 4k SST20, green with green secondaries and both tail caps. Now the waiting begins!

looks like this light will soon discontinue like d4 ? only green body color left to buy, seems weird to retire two great lights and not produce more units atleast 1 color ?

Maybe something new and updated is on the horizon based on all the feedback he has had here and on other forums.

Is there an “updated version” of the D4 and D4s about to be released?

D4s Copper/Titanium is coming!;)

Thank you, I guess I should of researched before I posted the question….It’s just that I got so excited lol.

D4S copper??? That will surely have some heft to it

gonna need a bigger belt and galluses :open_mouth:

It was a joke! I hope the owner of these lights give us a Titanium/Copper d4s

I can neither confirm nor deny any rumors about what Emisar is up to.

I mean, unless there’s a rumor that they eat babies. Because they don’t.

Otherwise though, I can’t really say much. TBH, most of the time I don’t even have the answers. Hank likes to keep his cards hidden until he’s ready to play them.

Actually, this sounds like Emisar IS up to something at least. :-D

Not the worst strategy, looking at Mateminco/Banggood by trying to launch their D18 competitor. ;-)

Considering what weve found so far with the D4, im curious on whats cooking on the D4S.

TK!
I see new manual for Anduril: http://toykeeper.net/torches/fsm/anduril-ui.txt
I have last version from 06-13-2019. But I don’t have described functions in my light:
In steady / ramping mode:

  • 5 clicks: activate manual memory and save current brightness
  • 5 clicks (but hold the last click): go back to automatic memory

Momentary mode:

  • Press button: Light on (at memorized mode/level).

    and so on….
