Eneloop Pro AA: $33/8pc = $4.12/cell (“overpriced” on Amazon because the Amazon Basics High-Capacity AA is agreed to be a re-wrapped Eneloop Pro, and they cost ~$2/cell)
Eneloop Pro AAA: $27/8pc = $3.375 (The Amazon Basics AAA options are not Eneloop Pros, per HJK testing they do not perform as well as the Eneloop Pro AAA, the AMZ Basics AAA perform poorly overall actually)
How about Fujitsu “High Capacity” black ones @ 950mAh? As far as I can interpret HKJ’s test results, they look about equivalent to Eneloop Pros.
I see they’re 4 for $10 at Newegg, $3 shipping unless you buy 3 packs, then shipping is free. Still not a great deal, but $2.50/ea is better than anything else I see right now. Searching history at Slickdeals, I see they’ve been <$2/ea at various points in the past year, but not predictable - sometimes it’s only a 2-pack, sometimes it’s lumped with AA’s, etc. But if you set up a “Deal Alert” there, you can get an email next time a deal pops up.
Thanks Andyman, that looks like another good alternative especially if you can wait for a sale. I may keep an eye on that. And it would be a fair deal for those not near an Ikea. For the moment I can wait till our next visit to the SIL / Ikea for $7/4pc ($1.75/cell)
Wow - that’s a nice price! I don’t live near an Ikea either - I’ve seen a couple of mentions of these batteries, but haven’t seen prices (or if I did I forgot). I’ll have to keep an eye out if I’m traveling somewhere near a store.
Another nice deal! I actually found a 4-pk of the Ikea Ladda cells for <$7 on ebay after my last post, and I didn’t really need more AAA’s anyway, so I should be set for a while.
Fujitsu Blacks are FDK made cells. Fujitsu owns the FDK plant, the patents and the technology and makes the Eneloop batteries for Panasonic.
Since you’re in the States, look to the Duracell Ion Core AAs and even AAAs. Places like Toys R Us, ChinaMart, Target, most super markets all have them. Batteries made in Japan is what you seek. Some Duracell/Energizer brands are Chinese. I also love the Energizer 2300mAh silver foil jobbies, which are FDK made, as well.
Anywhere from $7.99/quad, to $10.99 for the Duracell Ion Cores/Energizer 2300s. They are FDK sourced hi-caps and can be bought on your next beer run.
My last two batches were 8 Fujitsu White 4th Gen. AAs and 4 Fujitsu Black AAs.
The US Distributor for Fujitsu sells over on Ebay under various handles, with perfect feedback. Look for the sellers out of Sandy, Utah, or Salt Lake City. They seem to rotate between the various user names they sell under, but SLC/Sandy Utah is what you want.
Cool. ShopGL is one that I used, UPCGlobal, is another.
I don’t know why they change names, but all of the 3-4 that I’ve witnessed over the 2+ years have had 100% positive feedback.
I remember first finding them and they were selling the blue 1800 cycle Eneloops that we see at Costco in the starter packs. I thought at the time, that these guys are hijacking tractor trailers because they had so many batteries and the included chargers. It was funny.
They then obviously struck a deal with Fujitsu/FDK/Panasonic and became the US Distributor here in the States.
Anyhow, it’s just something to note. I’m now at 5 years since I completely revamped my rechargeable batteries, cells and chargers, so one picks up some info here and there.
