Few months ago they still had about half dozen of the 3rd gen pack but once they disappeared, none since. Maybe the next coupon book will have them marked down…
I'll have to check my Costco (Melville Long Island) tomorrow. Last time I bought them a few months ago, they were $19.97 with the instant $5 off at the register. So now they're $30??
Edit: I get it now. New improved charger and 4th gen cells...
The old sets had 8 AA batteries, 4 AAA batteries, and a charger. The set now comes with 10 AA’s. Two more batteries total. So I guess that should drive the price up some.
Yeah, they raised the price from $25 to $30 because they’re using newer gen batteries, they’re including 2 more AA batteries, and they’re using a better charger.
I recently bought some Ladda, $5.99 for a 4 pack, either AA or AAA.
They are advertised as 500 charge cycles. I did put the AAAs thru the Opus and they are all slightly higher than the rated 750mah.
When this thread was first posted, I could not find these Eneloops in the Houston area Costco stores. I just went to the Sugar Land Costco and found these in stock. Still $30.
Wait a minute. Do you mean the cells are now made in China, not Japan? I thought the cells would be made in Japan, and maybe the charger only - made in China…
Some are. They are using both and some markets will get Japanese and others the Chinese. The US is part of the Japanese distribution. You would have to assume that once the Chinese can make them to the same standard as the Japanese (or near enough), they will all come from China.
I would think that battery making is such an automated process that the labor element would be a relatively minor part of the production cost or why would Panasonic and Tesla be starting to build the largest Lithium Ion battery plant in the world in Nevada? Also virtually all world car makers who sell in the USA manufacture here which indicates to me that transport costs and import duty makes it worthwhile economically to do so.
