First post here. Bit of a flashlight newbie. There’s always been a few kicking around the house but I’ve recently gotten into higher quality lights, especially for EDC. I just picked up a Lumintop Tool AAA and I figured the venerable Eneloops would be great in it. My question is simple: can Eneloops or any similar 1.2v NiMH batteries damage a 1.5v light? My logical brain tells me no, as Lumintop lists the operating volts as 0.9-1.5, but I haven’t been able to find a definitive answer searching around. Like I said, I am a flashlight newbie and I would hate to damage my first real light. Sorry if this question has been asked before, I honestly looked all over this forum, CPF, and various Google searches. Again, thanks in advance for helping to calm this anxious mind.
i second that as confirmation to your answer, it will work with lithium primaries like energizer ultimate lithium(stated as 1.5v but actually able to go as high as 1.8v), alkaline, nimh… a good flashlight usual has somesort of current regulator feature built in to accommodate them, because different batteries quality may be vary in performance.
Just want to add, my tool AAA unable to last 30 mins on high mode as specs using standard eneloop AAA. But eneloop AAA pro most likely will do the job as specs.
Thanks for the warm welcomes and nice responses everyone! Splott-Light: I will try to reign in my wallet as I can see this new obsession getting out of hand! :money_mouth_face:
Thanks for doing some runtime tests! I may have to pick up some Eneloop Pros but 3.5 hours on medium doesn’t sound too bad to me. I’m glad I got some rechargeables though… buying enough alkaline disposables needed to keep this light satiated would get expensiveness fast!
Apparently, as far as I know (not much!) like several other lights, (mine was a Hugsby AA size), they work BUT they are not recommended, as they can stop you being able to go back to using lower voltage batteries should you wish to revert.
This is presumably damaging the driver somehow with the excessive heat/Voltage?
Anyone who’s actually run one on Li-Ion care to comment?
Question to any Tool owners, since I have your attention here-no need to start another thread. Has anyone had trouble with sort of rough threads? I read reviews about Lumintops having smooth threads that come well lubed, but mine seems a little rough, especially the tail cap, where a little silver can be seen where I guess the anodizing has been off since I got it. I lubed it up well with some Super-Lube, and both sides twist well but sound a little grindy. Sorry for the incessant questions!
