Eneloops in Lumintop Tool AAA

Hi everyone.

First post here. Bit of a flashlight newbie. There’s always been a few kicking around the house but I’ve recently gotten into higher quality lights, especially for EDC. I just picked up a Lumintop Tool AAA and I figured the venerable Eneloops would be great in it. My question is simple: can Eneloops or any similar 1.2v NiMH batteries damage a 1.5v light? My logical brain tells me no, as Lumintop lists the operating volts as 0.9-1.5, but I haven’t been able to find a definitive answer searching around. Like I said, I am a flashlight newbie and I would hate to damage my first real light. Sorry if this question has been asked before, I honestly looked all over this forum, CPF, and various Google searches. Again, thanks in advance for helping to calm this anxious mind.

Matthew

NiMH is generally the preferred fuel for that light. You’re good to go.

Thank you for the prompt response.

i second that as confirmation to your answer, it will work with lithium primaries like energizer ultimate lithium(stated as 1.5v but actually able to go as high as 1.8v), alkaline, nimh… a good flashlight usual has somesort of current regulator feature built in to accommodate them, because different batteries quality may be vary in performance.

I second that :sunglasses:

Just want to add, my tool AAA unable to last 30 mins on high mode as specs using standard eneloop AAA. But eneloop AAA pro most likely will do the job as specs.

Hi. BlitzxCraig,

Welcome to the Madness.

You’ve done it now! Hold onto your wallet.

F.Y.I. as these can all be a bit variable.

I just recently tested a new one of these at High Mode for 35 + minutes, on an 850mAh AAA rechargeable, not an eneloop.

Thanks for the warm welcomes and nice responses everyone! Splott-Light: I will try to reign in my wallet as I can see this new obsession getting out of hand! :money_mouth_face:

Welcome to BLF, watch your wallet!

Oh, btw, you are interested in EDC lights, no pressure but have a look here:

(or better, wait for a deal for this light, I’m sure there will be a deal posted on BLF soon)

Djozz, that looks like a heck of a light! I’ll definitely keep an eye out for a deal on the forum.

Yep, you’re doomed.

Runaway and save your wallet as soon as possible :money_mouth_face:

Hi, BlitzxCraig

Re. Lumintop Tool:

Tested with an Eneloop AAA and got 30 Minutes before starting to dim for a further 5 minutes until flashing at low power.

Managed some further testing on Medium Mode, various New 900/850 mAh rated rechargeable AAA batteries, including a Standard White Eneloop.

Got roughly 3 Hours 30 Minutes on all of them, so 4 Hours a bit hopeful, as lightx found on his High setting.

There is always a bit of variation in quality at this end of the market, thus variation when we test and have different results.

Cheers,

Thanks for doing some runtime tests! I may have to pick up some Eneloop Pros but 3.5 hours on medium doesn’t sound too bad to me. I’m glad I got some rechargeables though… buying enough alkaline disposables needed to keep this light satiated would get expensiveness fast!

@BlitzxCraig,

Glad to be of help.

Just had a thought, some of my multiple AA “Soda Can” style Torches can’t take the Eneloop Pro’s as they are slightly too wide.

I’ll see if I can dig out a AAA Pro eneloop, to check if it fits the Lumintop tool O.K.

Now we’re at it … Would they survive 14500?

14500 = AA (not AAA) equivalent

:person_facepalming:

Sorry, my bad… Had a hard day.

@ BazzH,

AAA Li-Ion are 10440 size.

Apparently, as far as I know (not much!) like several other lights, (mine was a Hugsby AA size), they work BUT they are not recommended, as they can stop you being able to go back to using lower voltage batteries should you wish to revert.

This is presumably damaging the driver somehow with the excessive heat/Voltage?

Anyone who’s actually run one on Li-Ion care to comment?

Cheers,

Question to any Tool owners, since I have your attention here-no need to start another thread. Has anyone had trouble with sort of rough threads? I read reviews about Lumintops having smooth threads that come well lubed, but mine seems a little rough, especially the tail cap, where a little silver can be seen where I guess the anodizing has been off since I got it. I lubed it up well with some Super-Lube, and both sides twist well but sound a little grindy. Sorry for the incessant questions!
