Estimated review date of the Nitecore EA41?

Considering the sketchy history of the EA4, I recommend you skip the EA41 and just get the SWM D40A. It's a top notch light with zero complaints to my knowledge and the EA41 is pretty much a copy of its interface. I have the D40A and have zero complaints. It's an incredible light as anyone who owns one will attest. Can't same the same about the EA4. The EA41 is too much a crap shoot until we hear otherwise.

Have you reviewed both the D40A and the EA41?

I have acouple of the D40A lights and they are outstanding , only thing that draws me to the EA41 is the switch. That and being a tart for AA lights  And now i think about it i may well tear down my EA4 for Stih and giggles mostly.

I also have the D40A and the EA4, and for a non-modder like me, they serve their purposes really well. Yes, the dual-switch of the EA41 ala D40A is a go for me. Also, I like the Nitecore’s no battery-carrier required design more.

I contacted Sunwayman about the D40A switch and the possabillity of getting an upgrade kit to one like the F40A/EA41 and there reply was non-committal, we’ll get back to you on that.

I haven’t reviewed my D40A because I bought it but have too many other lights that need reviews that I’m obligated to review first. I also don’t have an EA41 but given a chance to get one to review I’d happily do so. :stuck_out_tongue: I just won’t buy one to find out it’s not much better than an EA4. I’m sure the EA41 switch has been improved greatly but some have reported as much as 25% output loss due to heat sag on the EA4 and it appears that the EA41 has the same heat sinking (or lack of it). I’m sure Nitecore will send one to selfbuilt as soon as they start shipping.

@ johnnymac, do you have a link?

As far as I could remember the tests were shown no real output sag.

I think it was in the tear down thread.

I was told by someone who has one. I'm thinking it was JMPaul since he and I skype daily but I could be wrong. I'd love to be wrong about it and might be but I'd still recommend the D40A as it's a sure winner. Just one guys opinion though. ;)

I think enough of the D40A to own 2 one CW one NW, more telling of how much i think of the D40A is that i have bought 4 more all NW version for family members

What is the price difference between the two? I mean if the EA41 has a 10-15 price differance with the group buy prices, might offset some of the it is not the end all be all. Since most here do have more than 2-3 lights. That and we are all about saving a few $$ here and there. I do not remember what the D40a was going for but IIRC it was around $70-$75 each and the EA41 is going for$48 is on GB.

D40A is possible for around $ 15 - $ 20 less… a few $ more than the EA41. Coupon for RRT26 available to everyone via PM - GB for Jetbeam RRT26 and Sunwayman D40A NW from HKE

no differance between the NW or CW for me $60

I have both DA40 and the XM L2 version of the EA4 with 960 lumens. The only real complaint I have with the EA4 is the crappy rubber switch. I like that it doesn’t use a battery holder and I like that I can get an idea of how much charge is left in my batteries by counting the flashes on the switch after I loosen the tail cap and re-tighten it. No problems at all with the DA40 and I would choose it any day over the the EA4 mainly because of the switch.
I will say that I like the beam slightly better on the EA4 and I think it throws slighly more but really not alot of difference. The switch is the main difference.

The NW for $ 5 less here …

You should ask coupon via PM

I cannot read German well enough to create an account here to see these images. Is anyone able to access the pictures in this thread?

The D40 oozes quality and refinement. It is one of the best if not the best built flashlight I have. Honestly though, if you can’t wait reviews or need it now, go for the D40. You will not regret it. However, if you can wait a bit and have SB or someone trusted review the E41, it might be worth the wait.
