I just received my most recent Convoy order.
I decided to put the F45R into an M21A donor that had a hideous xhp50.3 in it, with an MTN Fet driver.
With the F45R and a tame battery, it is pulling a hair over 12 amps on turbo, which should work pretty good.
The tint is fairly pleasing and this should have a nice little chunk of throw with the SMO reflector.

Could you comment on F150R in M21K please?
I’m almost convinced that that I will like it more than LHP73B that I have, but it’s all numbers ATM…

I like the F150 in the M21K.
I am curious how many more amps the emitter can safely handle though.
Pretty soon I’ll be doing an F150 build with a more substantial driver than the one in the M21K. I’d like to push the emitter to failure.
If you’re looking for more throw, the F150R beats the LHP73B hands down.

Yes. I have 2 M21K lights.
Both started life as LHP73B, but I’ve since swapped out both emitters at this point.
The other one has an NV1010 in it now.

I was just looking at the M21C-U and might be a perfect host to try this led with the 22mm INML driver

I put a f45r 4000k with 15A driver in M21b and it got magic brown spots! Put it in 50% as high mode. Used it a bit since then and its been stable and decent. Tints a little meh. Not sure where to go next with this M21B, new F45r emitter and new 10a driver? sft70 or xhp70 and my old 6v5a driver? sft60 with current 15a

Possible flux contamination?
Flux residue is bigger than those dots, that looks like burnt phosphor

Could be! I’m not a pro at fiddling with these. But Simon does only offer it with 10a even in larger lights.

I have seen rosin spatter like that with high heat.
If This were a factory light assembled by Convoy, I highly doubt there would be flux on the emitter. Their assembly procedures are super clean from what I’ve seen.

Convoys 3v 15a buck. Not sure I want to test another emitter even with trying to prevent flux spatter.

Lhp531 4000k is an option, but it won’t throw nearly as far. It will handle 15amps no problem though.
Since you measured something over 12A on a fet driver, I highly doubt Convoys buck driver of any kind will provide more current than that unless your battery was in really poor shape. I’m almost 100% sure that buck driver won’t cause heat damage to the phosphor. This might be a poorly soldered led or bad application of thermal compound ( which has happend before with Convoy) but I highly doubt it’s driver related unless the driver somehow goes into direct drive, or the leds negative is shorted.
