They are extremtly bright and the strobe can bee seen even during the day.
Easy to use and 4 settings for nighttime use.
The unit is 2 1/2” x 3 1/2” and the cord is long enough to hook up the battery pack amost anywhere. The controls are 2 buttons, 1 forthe strobe and 1 forthe main headlights.
They could use some silicon in the spaces betweenthe light & buttons housing in cas it rains.
I used them on the GAP trail tunnels in Md. and they really lit up the tunnels.
I hope there's more to this review coming. Or maybe not. If this is all that has to be done to get free lights, then I'm going to start hounding DX for lights to review.
There is a thread on MTBR that someone took apart the D99 and it has very little contact area between the LED pill and the housing. The Solarstorm/Fandyfire X2 seems to be a better dual emitter light as the LEDs rest on a complete piece of aluminum. However I can see that some would like the interface better on the D99 over the X2, as well as possibly the optics used.
I just saw a couple of months ago in bikeforums.net DX looking for reviewers and just signed up. They 1st sent 2 lights, no batteries, then after requesting some they sent Li-ion packs, but no charger. I ordered a charger just to get things moving. I cant figure how to attach my photos ( i don’t have a webv site) If you want my photos write to me at bktourer1@gmail.com
You need to use a hosting sight like imageshack/photobucket/Dropbox. Make an account (its free) and upload [host] the photos there, then use the link to post pictures here or where ever else you want to put pictures on the internet.
Edit: slew beat me to it.
Worth mentioning that while they didnt pay you money if they provided you free products you don’t have to return you did technically receive compensation for the review, I’m not trying to give you a hard time about it or anything but it seems like they went above and beyond to help you (sent you batteries on top of the lighs, at your request) so the right thing to do would be to provide a more detailed/more in depth review for them. They’re sort of expecting it. What I got from this is that you actually complained they didn’t GIVE you a charger along with the lights and batteries. When companies provide me with a product for review I do the best review I can and I send them a copy and/or link to the review so they can see what they’ve “bought” themselves, the goal is to provide a fair review (doesn’t need to be positive, just fair and the best quality you can write) so that they want to send you more free stuff, I wouldn’t expect them to send you much more for free if this is the advertisement they can expect out of it.
Again I’m not tryin to come down on you or anything like that, you’re welcome to your opinion (be it positive or negative) but if they were asking for reviewers and you told them you would provide a review, and then asked them to send you more stuff on top of that, if it were me I would want to provide a well written review even if the product flat out sucked, their service was pretty damn good if you ask me.
I didn't explain what I meant when I said I hoping there was more to this review coming, so I'll explain now.
Everything in the review so far could have been done by looking at the pictures and product description of this light. A useful review provides information that you can only get by using the device.
How wide is the beam? How far does it throw? What's the tint like? Is the light balanced on the handlebars, or does it swing down when you hit bumps? How well are the modes placed? What's the battery life? Does the light get hot?
Pictures can answer some of those questions.
Much more information can be provided with a multimeter, lux meter and non-contact thermometer.
Some reviewers show disassembled photos of their lights and take measurements of the parts to help readers know how difficult it might be to upgrade that light.
You certainly don't have to do all that, but please provide some information that can only be gleaned by actually using the light. Or don't if that's all DX wants, and then I'll request all the products DX has and I'll write reviews on them before they arrive.
The battery carrier issue will be your toughest because I don’t think many if any come with such. I have seen one that is on Kaidomain that has a carrier that can have the batteries removed, but I would bet after unscrewing the screws they end up not being able to screw in again.
It looks like all springs are on the one side so that would be 4.2V and then you could use DrJones mobydrv + something like this. Not hard to make and much usefull because of versatile driver…
The one issue I have with a driver swap is how do you deal with the switch? I can double check later, but I don't think there's enough room inside to use the old driver as a contact board and another driver attached to its back.
If I knew how to resolve the switch issue, I'd already be doing a driver swap with my bike light that uses a battery tube like that above, but with a single removable 26650 instead.
It depends on what model of bike light you have. This one or this one and all similar models have enough space you would just have to remove all components (or at least biggest ones like coil or capacitor/s). You could also make a remote switch from old mobile phone head set like I did
Yeah, but don’t expect miracles because DX and other vendors were burned too many times by people like bktourer1 that promeris reviews and what not and then make 2 posts in total and disappear after…
To get free lights you have to buy bunch of them first, do a review on them, make a reviewer portfolio.
Best way to start would be to offer trade: review for discount, that’s what I do
