Fenix E21 head / P60 tail mash-up project

This is a project I’ve been working on for quite some time. The head is a spare from an old fenix E21, the tail is a P60 (specifically a solarforce L2T). On a 3v 123 the stock driver runs at .9A on low and 1.5A on high (on a Li-ion its pulls to much current (>2A) so its limited to 1x123). [if anyone has lumen output estimations that would be great!] the body was turned from 1” Al stock.

(I’m not sure how to post pic’s on this forum software so it may take me a few times).

Probably a dumb question but why not just cut one side of the E21 tube and then you only have to finish and thread the other side?

Duh! Because the E21 is AA size tube.

I have a E21 and a couple of Solarforce lights as well. I would like to try this but don’t have a body.

No dumb questions- I don’t have it any more. I gave my old E21 to my father in law on Xmas eve when he needed a light (unplanned) and this was a spare head I had for it that the stock emitter burned up in so fenix sent me a replacement and didn’t want this one back.

Ah yea, that too lol.

I love how much the little head can throw and at the higher drive currents, can’t wait till the snow melts so I can get a true look at what it can do!

The two things I like most about the E-21 is the good throw and the forward clicky. I run mine with a 14500 and a dummy cell. I find it runs just fine this way. The tint looks better and the output looks about double to my eye. A recharable 16350 would make this a heck of an EDC.

I got some 16340’s today, I was disappointed to see there is no low mode on Li-ion. I don’t mind sticking with 123’s but I was looking forward to the extra umph on a 16340.

Beam shots still to come.

Here are some more detailed photos, beam shots will be coming soon. As far as running it on a Li-ion, it’s only slightly brighter on high yet gets a lot hotter and while there is a difference between H and L, low is too bright so I’ll be sticking with 123’s, I’m working with RMM to come up with a ground switched driver for it tho.

The E21 is one of my favorite lights. My son puts mine to use regularly. Your custom E21 minilight is awesome!
