Hello flashlight enthusiasts. I recently bought the Fenix LR50R flashlight, and today i noticed that at Eco and other lower outputs, 2 of the 4 LEDs glow noticeably dimmer (2 on the right side when looking at the unit with the buttons facing you). It is also noticeable until you reach output High 1. If you put it into Eco mode and put it close to the wall, approx 2-3 inches, the 2 beams from the LEDs are dimmer. It is also visible on the clover leaf pattern, when you point it to a wall, the “leaf” on the opposite side of the 2 dimmer LEDs is also dimmer, but when you put it on High 1 mode, it is no longer noticeable, but i am unsure whether the difference is gone or its due to the fact that the reflection is very bright and gets hard to distinguish any difference in brightness. I have cleaned the lens, cleaned all the contact points, recharged the battery to full, made sure there is no condensation under the lens that could interfere with the output, the effect is always there. I am unsure if it is by design so the unit gets as close to the declared lumen output on lower modes and then on higher modes goes full blast on all 4, or my unit is faulty. Could anyone who has the flashlight try to see if their unit does the same, so i know if i should replace it? Thank you to everyone who takes the time to check
Images of the beams close to the wall, lowered the ISO of the camera and increased shutter speed to see the difference on camera, but Eco isnt visible at all at those settings, so the dimmest image is Low, brightest is Turbo.
yup i see it all across the range. it shouldn’t bother you, lifespan on LEDs is amazing. Me personally, i would change out those horrible sst70 for some nicer tint xhp50. let us know if you open it
what do you mean by all across the range? at this price point, that should not have happened. if i dump 300 bucks/euros for 12000 lumens, i expect to get them. i already contacted Amazon and replacement is on its way. if it happens on the new one, fine, probably the whole batch is like that and im not going to hunt for a unit from another batch, ill take it as it is )even though i consider that to be unfair), only because this model is perfect for my needs in terms of throw, beam angle, battery life, option to use regular 21700 batteries etc.
If I spent $300 on a light I’d expect all the LEDs to be the same brightness at any level, and I also would have asked Amazon for a replacement.
You could ask Fenix for an explanation just to see what their response is. If you do I’d be curious to see how they respond.
The post about swapping out the LEDs is weird to me. A person shouldn’t have to fix something defective just to make it right when it’s a brand new item. If I bought a new car and only half the fuel injectors work right telling me to replace them with different ones is not going to fly. Clearly there’s a price difference but the reasoning is the same.
