Fever

Had a bad dose of lightfever delirium this afternoon, when I came to my senses I found I'd bought this .......

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1200-Lumen-CREE-XML-T6-LED-Light-HeadLight-HeadLamp-Head-Torch-Lamp-2x18650-/300701800786?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4603395952

Can any forumerz give me a rough idea of the runtimes I can expect in the 2 modes??.

thanks, mega.

I think I have the same head lamp. The cells are in parallel and current draw is low, so the runtimes are (very) good.

See also my post here: "Estimated runtime is about 5h on high and about 24h on low"

I think basically it looks like a decent deal but personally I wouldn't put a liion headlight of a HIGH QUALITY brand like Zebralight to my head since I would be scared of the device to explode on me. I know it's more about the batteries but security of the light plays a big role as well.

Thanks for the info the, and anzy, when you talk about exploding, do you mean the batts venting hydrogen and sparking off??

Yep but they vent more than hydrogen. You may want to read through these threads.

Edit: To clarify they do vent hydrogen which is what burns as I understand it. But they also vent a poisonous gas.

Actually it’s gas that DISSOLVES YOUR LUNGS PERMANENTLY.

That’s why I’m (but that’s a personal thing) very careful with new flashlights and batteries that I haven’t run in and tested yet, especially getting them close to my head. 1 explosion is enough to be blind / loose my eyes for the rest of the life.

Again, it’s a personal security thing…

Well I also have a fever…

And the only prescription is more cowbell!!

Where the hell do you find all these raccoon?

Sorry, that's a trade secret. :)

You will never get these wearing that light on your head … 8)

It arrived yesterday!!, pretty good for chinapost, lol, it works ok and seems reasonably bright, will try it out at work, (nights).

Megabeam, are you aware of reverse charging? Are you using good brand protected batts? Hope you answered yes for both. I”m afraid………very afraid. Just realized it is parallel so they are safer? I still don”t like two Lion cells on my head Pfffft

Keith

Yes to both your questions Keith, as for risk, I would guess that crossing a busy road is more dangerous than a pair of batts on your brainbox.
Although, it’s just occurred to me that it might be a good idea to mount it on a safety helmet, I’ve got a few lying around!!.

mike.

I can see a car coming but I can”t see a dead short in in a battery. The helmet sounds good. Be safe (that”s all).

Keith

The helmets are designed to take a pounding keith, even if the batts popped, I would think I’d get away with it, lol.

Cool. Have fun!

Keith

Parallel is just about as safe as single battery lights. The battery with a larger charge would just charge the one with a lower charge until they were at equal voltage.

Thanks for the interest guys, I’ve now got a couple of days off so I’ll get the thing set up, part of the reason for the helmet mount, is not to look like a dork when wearing it, lol.
As well as being a flashlight newbie, I’m also a photography newbie, but I’ll try and post a few basic beamshots soon.
