Just one here.
Interested in 1 if the price is right.
4000K in this configuration makes little sense to me. It wonāt be a good work light for me, as it wonāt let see objects as they are in daylight. Petals in the beam wonāt be something Iām ready to tolerate in other use cases but the work-related.
Thanks for the opportunity but I pass.
Evan from Sofirn told me.today, that he needs an amount of 500 flashlights, which had already been promised in advance, in order to begin planning for changes.
That would be much work for us to advertise it everywhere.
Maybe we have to change the flashlight company and look for another flashlight model. ![]()
I have as āPlan B, C and Dā in mind, that we can ask Simon from Convoy, Neal for a Nightwatch and Hank for the Emisar D3AA as Special Edition Lamp.
How about Wurkkos? TS26 with 519A and one UV LED plus Lens. All you need is some Driver changed and a new reflector that can hold the UV lens
I just bought the SR15 UV and two of the SR23 standard version and I like both, but I would definitely buy a 4000K white plus black light filtered UV. It does seem a bit difficult to make though, with both the filter and normal transparent glass for the 4000K, but I love purple and I donāt see the problem with a high CRI 4000K from Nichia. I could take 2 or 3 even if it would also include the beacon flash function and stepless ramping with a very low moonlight mode (less than or not more than 1 lumen)
I think Wurkkos is basically Sofirn/Jinba from a production point of view. I am not familiar with the other mentioned candidates, but it would be interesting as well.
I wonder what is the best approach:
- some visible (full body?) etching only
- the above plus unique (seldom or never used) body color
- OP reflector or TIR in place of SMO (for instance TS28) + etching
- the above plus 5000K emitter
- IF22A with the Buck driver (itās a shame itās still not done) + etching
Unfortunately, I see no chance to crowdfund 500+ units if (as) maker does not believe in the success of such model.
@macomako - I see the same problem.
Because of that we discuss the problem actually in the TLF.
Some vote for Emisar D3AA, some vote for Convoy, some vote for another Sofirn/Wurkkos Light.
Iād be all for a Wurkkos TS26 with 519As (or NTG35, FFL351A etc) but them using the same factory as Sofirn I wouldnāt expect them to be any more flexible. OTOH maybe they could be convinced to offer it as a limited edition globally but not sure it would align with the spirit of the project.
All the boutique makers (as in Hank, Simon or FireFlies) would be great as far as Iām concerned. The only thing for me personally is to stick with TIR lights, no reflectors. And good quality drivers. No need for UV
Iāve heard Sofirn is already working on an improved IF22A for 2026.
An M21K with 4 or 6 LEDs would be nice. A reflector or lens like the Q8plus
Iām not in for one, but I feel like a distressed or stonewashed finish in TiNi would look amazing on this light. Imagine the UV, pouring out of a battle-hardened case, cutting a swathe of darkness through the gloomy mistā¦
I started a new voting in the TLF.
It gives 2 solutions if Sofirn stays with ā500 Flashlights before we start to planning changesā
-Another (and better selling) Flashlight from Sofirn or Wurkkos.
-Another Flashlight Company (Hank, Simon, Neal).
I gave a lot of options in the voting thread.
-Convoy S21G in Aluminium and a new anodisation color and LHP73B with 20A-Driver.
-Convoy S21G with Copper Head and Alumium-Body in a new anodisation color and LHP73B with 20A-Driver.
-Convoy T4/T5/T6 in Aluminium and a new anodisation color.
-Nightwatch A54 series in a new anodisation color.
-Emisar D3AA Aluminium in a new anodisation color.
-Emisar D3AA Bronze - it would be a completely new metal for Hank. ![]()
It looks like it will go in the direction of D3AA or S21G. ![]()
This voting is only for the case that Sofirn stands with ā500 promised Flashlights from your side before we start any planningā for the S23. ![]()
Have you checked with them to see if they will make a custom light to your specifications, and if so, if they have minimum order numbers to be able to do it?
I know this is hard⦠like herding cats. Everyone has their individual wants. It is impossible to make everyone happy. I applaud your efforts!!
@Mandrake50 - Iāll ask them if we know a way out.
But Iāll ask all 3 for a possible solution, not only one.
I really hope that Sofirn will come to us and says āOK, 100 promised Flashlights are enough for the beginning with the SR23ā, but it donāt looks so. ![]()
I think the copper head would fit wonderfully with the dark green anodisation that Convoy has:
A 7070 Reflector for a light this size would be wonderful. Floody Pocket Rocket
Or, maybe we can get Simon to finally make a 21700 version of the T6?
For me, Convoy is a waaaaaayyyyyyy better partner for something like this than Sofirn. First, because Simon doesnāt use 3 Liters of glue to make the light unrepairable, but also because he sells all of the spare parts for very fair prices and the price-performance ratio is better imho.
If someone likes the host, but not the 7070 LED, itās easy and cheap to change to whatever LED and driver you want. Try that with a modern Sofirnā¦
Why not to consider⦠procurement approach to this project?
Some initial points for consideration:
- Let the makers fight for this arguably prestigious deal ā there will be no more than one such light per year.
- They should come up with proposals of lights they are most proud of and which they foresee as something the hardcore enthusiasts would like to have.
- We could specify one or a few price tiers we expect to pay, say: $40 (or 30, 50, 70). Each maker could propose as many models as they want and in the tier(s) of their choosing
- Caveat: we wonāt offer any minimum purchase commitment, therefore we will āfix the pricesā
- makers should have a freedom to choose any additional āgoodiesā to add to the offer (e.i. battery, customized lanyard, sheath, badge, etc) if they ācan afford itā within fixed price
- It could be a two stage procurement process:
- Request for Information (RfI) to probe them if interested at all to take part (and accept our ācommercialā rules), followed by
- Request for Proposal (RfP) that will ask for the detailed specs of the lights in trier(s) of their choosing
How does it sound to you?
Iād be in for one, priced much, much nearer the cost of the production version. 50⬠is near enough Ā£50. Thatās really about Ā£15 - Ā£20 more than Iād want to spend.
As mentioned in the post above, this deal ought to be viewed as something Sofirn want rather than a favour to BLF and TLF. The copper SC13 was small run and priced well considering the copper.
Of the other possible contenders Iād say Hank is out because he sells such a choice of emitters thereās no need for standardising one light. We buy everything he makes in multiples anyway.
Wurkkos produce arguably nicer lights than Sofirn IMO, they feel better quality.
Neal, I donāt know anything about.
Convoy Simon, all good but will we ever agree the model? ![]()
I sent Hank an email because the D3AA in made from Bronze or a special anodisation color. ![]()
In the TLF a few members asked for a special version of the Wurkkos HD02.
It would be a great choice in my opinion. ![]()
- As mentioned, Hank would have to be in a unique anodizing color or material config, not something one can spec normally.
- Iād be all for a Wurkkos TS26 with better emitters and some unique anodizing, either on the body or the bezel (or both)
- Going with Simon would need some strong-handing regarding the model but I donāt think it would be impossible. Any group project is a compromise in that regard. And Njoerch wrote there already is a strong contender from TLF side
