Fireflies E04 Surge Review | Throwing light wide and far

For a while I’ve been only keeping more budget oriented flashlights in my collection, mostly stuff that I recommend people myself, so I know what’s good. For a while though I decided to get myself some more expensive lights. The new Fireflies E04 caught my attention the moment it was released half a year ago. I took a long time to decide on the emitter choice lol.

The flashlight performs exceptionally well. While not extremely floody (20cd/lm), it illuminates a pretty wide area at distance remarkably well. Turbo mode doesn’t overheat excessively and maintains output for 1-2 minutes – I wouldn’t strictly call it a hotrod. The driver is of high quality, combining buck and FET. Anduril is pretty standard to see in this type of enthusiast-focused flashlight. Compared to similarly performing flashlights like the Acebeam L35, Convoy M21E XHP70.3 or even Sofirn SP36 Pro, the Fireflies is the smallest of them all, keeping a similar performance.

Please tell me what you think of the additional throw-time graphs. I think they’re much more useful and intuitive for people not familiar with flashlights and how certain lumen values look like in real life.

The switch has good tactile feedback but is quite easy to press, leading to accidental activation. Remember to lock it after use.
Switch can be modified by taking out a metal disk from inside. I made a special tool for this you can 3D print:
