First Impressions of a Stock Sofirn HS10 w 2700K LH351d.

For reduce bright of Led status we can put a bit of E-Silicone like the Kafuter/Tian mu 704 above it (adesion strong).
before apply, I made in grey color by add a drop of black printer ink.

I noticed in some flashlights that modulation and pwm values change by the type of modes is used (ramp or level steps).
Would be nice a comparation of both at similar brightness

at similar brightness the PWM is the same, but at different brightness the PWM does change. To measure PWM I use an Opple, but I do not build large lists of different modes, because they change for each light.

atm Im mostly interested in lights w NoPWM, such as Skilhunt, Emisar D2, and Emisar D3AA

For the HS10 they could implement driver parts of sc21mini that’s pwm free.
Wish for a driver upgrade, with a real firefly mode

I also hoped the HS10 would be flicker free, but even the SC21 Mini has a mode that has some flicker (not visible, it is at high frequency)…

That is why I decided to only keep my SC21 Pro, which has even deeper modulation depth (although not visible either since it is very fast), and a larger Flicker Index:

Instead of the SC21 Mini, I prefer the SC21 Pro because I like Anduril, and the lighted switch button.

Anduril has ruined me. I dont usually buy 3 mode lights, because the mode spacing is less granular. I made an exception for the Skilhunt H150, because I wanted an AA headlamp with NoPWM, to keep in my car.

2 Thanks

What I like of Anduril is can go in firefly mode and the smooth ramp with right speed.
Not too fast and stepped like on HS10 that made hard find the right low brightness setting.
Guess that same thing happen on sc21mini?

yes
My favorite headlamp is the Emisar D2:

The Skilhunt H150 is also very nice, if you dont want a Red channel. Here is an album with several pics.

Hi jon_slider, thanks for your overview of the HS10.

Mine is LH351D 4000K. It has one of my favorite beam colors. I have a Convoy BD-06 (XML2) and a Convoy M4U (XPL-HI) both are also 4000K. All warm without green.

Yesterday I did the button spacer mod on my HS10.
It’s a really HUGE improvement on the button feel.
My HS10 rubber button was so mushy (worse than SC31 Pro’s mushy button), which made me kinda hesitant to carry it except when pairing it with SC21 Pro, as a sort of spare battery carrier.
Now with a firm and crisp button I really really like it and been playing and fidgeting a lot with it

I also did the same mod on my 2 SC31 Pros . If you think your SC31 Pro’s button is OK, give it the spacer mod and you’ll make it perfect.

Edit, I copied the button spacer mod from here:

That post and a few more below it discuss the mod in more detail.

A box? Be careful with extra cells.
I have 6 pcs of 21700 cells, only 2 units of 21700 flashlights. I bought extra cells thinking of needing some for spare. Also partially because I wanted to buy a Q8 Plus but then decided to avoid muti-cell flashlight.

OTOH with my HS10 and SC21 Pro, there’s no spare, each with its own OG cell, no extra.

In practice, all those OG cells are fine.
And begin to think of “how to store these extra 21700 cells more properly and safely”, “I don’t like them to self-discharge meaninglessly”,
“they need some good battery carriers”, “I mean tubes”, “I mean new flashlights” ,

I don’t know how relevant it is now, I bought my HS10 in April 2023, LH351D 4000K, it’s a nice warm color, no green at all.
And my SC21 Pro is LH351D 5000K, neutral white, no green.
For comparison my TS21 is SST20 5000K.
I compared them white-walling sidebyside, the two LH351D’s are nice, I don’t see any green. While SST20 5000K is very greenish in low level, slightly improves when ramped up to high brightness.

I didn’t really notice SST20’s green before seeing Nichia 519A or LH351D in person.
And comparing side by side now it looks kinda ugly to me.

Yup, I agree very much, SC21 Pro is an ideal unit. Compact, pocket-EDC friendly.

  • Anduril — with accessible flashing pads,
  • Good tactile button, e-switch with aux LED — configurable,
  • tailmagnet,
  • USB-C.

Yup, Anduril is beautiful.
I bought an HS10 (no Anduril) mainly because I was interested to this type (“L”, right-angle), HS10 is my first one.
I didn’t hate my HS10 but I like it much more after the rubber-button plastic-sheet-spacer mod.
It has everything except Anduril.

OTOH SC21 Pro is overall the more preferable unit, it’s just an almost-perfect unit out of the box.

SC21 Pro & HS10 is a good pair of 16340 units IMO, and the shape & proportion kinda remind me of a rook & a knight.

Another rook & knight pair : TS10 & HD10. New favs.

I agree with all your points.
I sometimes find HS10’s “simple UI” not simple, in practice often confusing. The ramping doesn’t feel right. I left it in stepped mode, less cumbersome.

What about SC13A? Nichia 519A 4000K?
Anduril, configurable switch LED.
Seems compact enough, with 18350 (more mAh).
Is there gonna be a right-angle version? “HC13” ? “HC13A (Anduril)” ? “HC13 Pro Anduril” ?
Another Rook & Knight pair?
