I think I like the OG version better.
If I ever need a thrower, I’d want a thrower, ie, max range, most light downstream vs “useful spill” washing out the foreground if not just nightblinding me.
With the 'A version, too much was lit up in the foreground, and what was downstream was just in the background and seemed only barely lit. Even if lux would be identical in both cases, washing out the foreground would just make the background almost invisible. At least that’s what I saw.

I prefer the SFT70 over the SFT40.
I recently compared two similar flashlights with those two emitters.
I don’t usually need the amount of throw that the SFT40 provides, and I appreciate the extra flood, lumens, and efficiency of the SFT70.
In fact, my favorite emitter right now is the SFT70, and my EDC has an SFT70.
My EDC is the Convoy M21E, and I run it on the 40% mode, which I call the “high” mode (as opposed to the “turbo” 100% mode.)
