In stacking up the CSLPM1 in the Emisar as opposed to the M21A, what differences are you observing between the two packages as far as beam characteristics go? (I really think CSLPM1.TG unfairly takes a back seat to NM1 and Boost HX.) I want another light with one in it, and am debating between say a Convoy S16 or the Wuben E06. Just not sure how much punch that emitter would lose in those smaller hosts. Simon has it now in the L21B …. very tempting as I’m super impressed with my SFT40 sample.
so the difference betweeen beams of the m21a and d4sv2 (with cslpm1) are pretty significant, where the m21a throws significantly further but the d4sv2 is 4 times brighter, and a much wider usable spill.
the cslpm1 is a tie for my favorite osram with the CULPM1, mostly because they both has
ve so many applications and can handle current really well.
I have been eyeing that wuben for awhile and it's the only small pocket thrower I've considered beside the FireFlies t1r that is not even out yet. The s16 would be awesome with the cslpm1 too, but just a completely different light bc of its larger size than the E6. I would lean toward the e6 because it's unique and different, and I feel the s16 beam with cslpm1 will be very similar to the Noctigon kr1.
the L21b would throw really well, but I bet that would be a light where the cslnm1 would really shine too.
I like the cslpm1 for multi emitter lights a lot because of its 3535 footprint so it has the ability to easily be put in any light and perform well.
the hotspot and beam shape shouldn't widen out too much on small hosts like say the boost hx might.
Obviously in a situation where I had to sell off lights to cover a contingency, I’d sell the expensive ones first and maybe re-acquire them later as finances permitted. If I get to pick 5 without regard to expense they’d be (maybe not in order):
1. McLux first generation Sundrop (the 1 speed mechanically switched one with Nichia 083). This is simply the greatest flashlight ever made. I misplaced mine a few years ago and I have lingering hopes that it is in my bedroom somewhere, but I fear it may be lost. If it doesn’t turn up then I’ll have to WTB one someday.
2. Photon Fanatic LPK keychain light, 1xSR44 with a Nichia GS 5mm led (a good led at the time). I don’t know why this concept has not been pursued more. It’s much nicer than a Photon-style light and not much bigger.
3. Emisar D4v2 with backlit pushbutton and Nichia 219bt 4500K main leds. There are some things I’d change about it but it’s my first “modern” flashlight. I got it for its Anduril geek appeal and am thrilled by Anduril’s customizeability. I’d get a bike mount for it so it could fill in for my existing Fenix bike light that I’d let go of. If buying again maybe I’d opt for 3500K instead of 4500.
4. Zebralight H50 headlamp (1AA and very floody 60 lumens or so). This is one of the smallest and lightest 1AA headlamps. Keeping because I have to have a headlamp and this is my nicest one, but if I were buying a new headlamp there are other choices possible.
5. Fenix E05, misplaced but until I officially declare it lost I’ll pretend to still have it. This is a decent 3-level 1AAA light that was my main EDC. I’m currently using a crappy Halo 1AAA as a substitute and have a Sofirn C01S on order as replacement. It sits in my jeans’ watch pocket and I don’t want anything bigger there, so I don’t want to EDC a larger light.
thisnsetup sounds great! I was so curious about the mclux Sundrup, and i wanted to see a picture really badly. I found this after about 20 minutes of digging around to make sure I had the right light. Looks like 2008, very cool!
Yes, that is the SunDrop. It’s the only flashlight I’ve ever used whose beam I would call literally mood altering. I’d always use it for looking for stuff under my bed, and no matter how annoyed I was at that moment’s nonsense, turning on that Nichia 083 always made me calm and happy. We are talking about a 1 level clicky light of about 45 lumens that cost $400+ at the time, but I promise it was worth it. A combination of beam shape, smoothness, color, and the titanium flashlight body that seemed to come from a faraway planet where everything was always done right, unlike here. Knowing that such a thing could exist on this planet made me feel better about the world that we are on now ;-).
Alright, it's been a busy couple of months, and feels like it has been too long since I have sat down and done this. So, here we go!

Emisar D1s - 7.5amp driver, SFT40 LED - beam is as close to perfect as I can get them, this light is a little beast. Took a couple months to get this one dialed in, all the more special now.
FireFlies (2021) E07 - xpl-hi 2850k / 4000k mix - I just really like the BIN of the LED's, and the total CCT, and this is a great size
BLF GT - SFT40 mod - TomE created, perfectly executed, now this is a PERFECT beam IMO. Still makes me laugh when I turn it on
M2r Pro Warrior - STOCK xhp35 HI 5000k(ish) - of all the xhp35 HI bare emitters & lights i have bought, this STOCK (from Olight) LED has the nicest tint. Rosy, near-perfect. Love the form factor, best e-tail switch i've ever used. and the anodization color is amazing to boot!
KR1 Cu - sbt90.2 with Emisar FET/5amp driver - I did the sbt90.2 "mod" on this one and it came out so much better than i thought it would. the copper handles the heat much better than the aluminum KR1, this light is just consistently good. no glitching, though it took me a couple of attempts and "back to the work bench" to get it here. that makes it all the more important to me.
