I am looking for an alternative to my right angle headlamp for close range work, I find myself too often try to set my headlamp on surfaces to find the correct angle and brightness for the job at hand. I also want something with more brightness and possible CCT choices.
Main features are:
brightness control, or at least 5-6 levels
flood and spot
built-in charging with 21700 or similar
CCT control
stand/hook/magnet to adapt to different working conditions
weight < 500g
So far the Fenix CL27R or the Nitecore NWL20 seem to check most of these but are a bit pricey. Are there other alternatives I should look at, maybe from more niche brands? I would probably avoid any mule headlamp such as DW4 just because I will still have the problem of not having a proper stand.
Edit: I am located in Europe, just in case some seller don’t ship here
One of the review sites has pulled one apart - so it’s possible to replace the battery. From memory, they measured the CRI and it was above 90 too. It’s got a tripod socket- so you could fit a mini tripod on the base of it- if the inbuilt flip out stand doesn’t work for you? It can be used as a powerbank, comes with a carabiner hook for hanging it up, has the built in magnet etc.
It’s in a lower price bracket than some of the others mentioned.
That’s how I got to the Fenix by reading that thread!
Yes the Fenix looks really cool, just twice the price as the other choices such as Sofirn LT1/S or the Astrolux® WL01 also looks interesting and quite cheap.
I can’t find it now, and it’s possibly discontinued, but there was a machine lamp style light with adjustable gooseneck, which took 3 or 4 18650 cells and had a magnetic base…
At one point Vinh was selling a souped up version, I can’t for the life of me find any record of it on the web, does anyone remember this light?
Edit: just needed a bit more digging on Google, found it! Weltool M3!
