I just purchased this. I have a set of these batteries and want to know if they will work:
18650 KeepPower 3500mAh Sanyo NCR18650GA Protected Button Top
These are actually for another flashlight. If I want to purchase 4 more batteries for this light, would these be a good choice? I do like the idea of having 8 identical batteries.
It’s not a good choice. The extra length of those protected cells may or may not actually fit in the light.
Secondly, this is a high current light that can pull 9 amps from each battery. It’s possible the protection circuit of the battery will trip. If not, then the light will probably be drawing a lot lower current which means a lot less lumens than the rated output.
I don’t know if there is any hidden option that I still don’t know how to use. But for now, the options for the auxiliary LEDs and the button LED (the configuration of both go together) that I know are:
Off.
Constant, not very bright.
Constant, bright.
Flashing (when blinking, alternate a bright blink with a low bright blink)
I just ordered 4 Molice P28A for this light. Mooch says it performs the same as the P26A but with slightly higher capacity. The P26A is rated as the best all-around 18650. If you want longest run time, get the NCR18650GA.
There is no “best”. There are a lot of variations and some work better in certain areas than others. Some give longer runtime, some give higher amps, but there are always pros and cons of each. The 30Q is a good “compromise” battery as it has good amps, good capacity, good availability in button top and a good price.
With this light I believe you can use flat top, but only if you remove the white discs which give polarity protection. So you’ll need to be extra careful installing batteries.
Another option is add a solder blob to a flat top.
A last choice is adding a magnet, but I think it adds resistance and might be risky if the light falls and a magnet causes a short circuit.
BTW, you can add your country to your profile info. Maybe someone can recommend a battery source for you.
