【Fresh Find】sofirn SP35T 21700 tactical light 3800lm SFN43 USB C Rechargeable

Hello BLF, i also have interest with the SP35 with 'T, yes feel excited with the 'buck+fet i've heard/read.. but i think i'll hold on for a while.

I dont know if should i open a thread .. but since this is Sofirn thread; i think its a better place to share my recent experience and issue with some of Sofirn lights in my possesion.

Last month i got my C8L through my local reseller. The unit i received have problem with the e-sideswitch; it would stuck in a mode, and end up hitting turbo or strobe, seems the switch is stuck or mis-align

Well, i think i have a 'lemon here. Not only problem with the side switch, but the exterior of the tube is not align well, with overhand position i cannot hit the side sw with my pinkie, and the tailcap groove not fitting the thumb well.

In short i get replacement that come in a good condition; the switch and the tube. Love it. (thank you for the review Funtastic, and fellow BLF-ers :)

Another issue, last night before going outside, i pickup my SP33S i bought in February, four click to unlock; nothing, tighten the tube, clean all contact point, swap battery.. silent, no lights.. ouchh

Checking the 26650 that came with it; it's in the range of 2,6volt (my nitecore ums2 charger first think it is charging a Ni-Mh cell.Lol)

Have no idea of the situation, i love that torch.

Didnt mean to hijacking the thread, and sorry for cluttering them with my problems, but perhaps there's anyone here with the same problem

Dont get me wrong Sofirn; i'm a happy user of C8T, C8F21700xp-l, C8Gsst40, sp31v2.0, SP35atr, IF25, C8L..

Thank you BLF

All flashlights that have an electronic side switch have parasitic drain causing the battery to drain slowly over time. Does the SP33S work now that you’ve charged the battery?

"Does the SP33S work now that you’ve charged the battery?"

No, its not working, i swap cells; moliP42a, vtc6, plug charger with and without battery; nothing happen..

Time for a warranty claim since it looks like you’ve done your own troubleshooting.

There’s currently a major national holiday going on in China, that may also explain why Jackie hasn’t responded yet. However, I did manage to get to Barry on whatsapp before their holiday, and he promised to check in with the engineers regarding the driver.

Yes, this is what surprised me too. My experience with domeless LED’s have been the Osrams, dedomed 519a, and SFT40 - they’ve all been either inherently throwy or have had their throw enhanced by the dedoming. I admit I’d never heard of SFN43 before but I also assumed it would be throwy, based on the spec. In that regard it’s very underwhelming. At even middle distances it makes the purported 3000+ lumens feel like half of that.

Yes, I feel the same. The side clicky on my copy is also very acceptable. I think they did well on the build quality for this model.

To be fair you need to pay close attention to the range spec regardless of the lumens. Range is 280m, the SP35 with SST40 is 332m.

For decent usable range you half that spec for 140m. What does it look like at 140m?

in hindsight I should have paid attention to the throw spec provided by sofirn. I have a feeling that if I had, i might have paused on hitting the buy button. For some reason I glossed over that initially.

At ranges of about 100m plus, it’s great. On the section of the property I live on, it’s about that distance from the accomodations to the fence - the light is great for nighttime rounds close to the fences. The beam is pretty nice for those distances, like alumenum mentioned.

But I find that anywhere else on the property, it falls off fairly fast. I find myself constantly wishing I had just a bit more. Even just an extra 50-80m or so of reach would be perfect.

Of course, this is all on turbo or high, where I still have to juggle the light due to how hot it gets. At medium power it’s pretty much useless at the distances I need it for.

"Time for a warranty claim "

I dont think its possible, purchased eight month ago, and the local reseller and marketplace warranty is void already.

I shall contact a local BLF-ers, that happen to do mod, perhaps he can help.

*sigh

Got confirmation from Barry that the driver indeed is not a BUCK driver. He checked with the engineers.

@Jackie you should probably edit your post and make correction to say it’s not buck FET

Ah well, at least the UI is nice. And hopefully after I get my LEDs in and reflow, the throw will be improved.

Looking at this light again after a break. Sofirn now advertise it as just buck driver. It is now available with an XHP50.

I don’t see where it says buck driver, unless I’m going blind? Can you point it out?

Anyway, for me, once bitten twice shy. I’ll wait til somebody else buys it and does runtime tests. This wasn’t the first time I got burnt by Sofirn, but this felt the worst for me because the LED is so bad and the driver so terrible - in addition to the wrong information provided by Jackie.

If you click on the yellow link for the SP35 model it takes you to another page which says it’s a buck driver. So the SP35T doesn’t have a buck driver but the SP35 does.

Yup - I think poohduck misread it. AFAIK they haven’t come out with a replacement driver - just an emitter swap. So still poorly regulated runtimes, just less overheating due to the different emitter.

Is there any update to revise with buck driver and feet next batch? It will great if can change sp35 with this upgrade. I like the tail switch on this version.

Also with sst40 led

Looks like the listing has updated the LED to a XHP50B, anyone have a chance to try this newer version of the SP35T?

I paid $20 for the first SP35 that generated just as much fanfare. Why is this over 50% mo money. I thought technology is supposed to get cheaper with time.

Seriously, what’s up here.

So this seems to be worse in every way than the original SP35, but I do like the OP reflector. Can Sofirn/Wurkkos consider selling spare parts such as reflectors? I assume the SP35T and regular SP35 have the same size head, so the reflector is the same size. Also the FC11 OP reflector fits the SC31 pro.

I would try DMing the official AliExpress sofirn store and ask them. Ive bought parts that weren’t listed on the store from sofirn and lumintop before, can’t see why they wouldn’t sell it.

I like the idea of this light too, but even with the alternative led option, won’t it still have the same driver issues?
