There are also two other 21700 new lights the Convoy M21A and the Sofirn C8G
Hoop, you are a magician! I use Te/Cu on my little lathe and have no issue, but pure copper and my little lathe are not friends! I have a few pieces of pure copper here that I can’t work, the machine just isn’t solid enough. I should send them to you and let you create art with them instead of having them sit around here collecting dust…
Dang. The screw version would have been great for holding a driver in a recent gift-build I did. The driver was two-sided and did not have clearance for the retaining ring in the S2+ pill. I ended up soldering it to the pill, which was not easy.
Hoops pieces are so beautiful they’re hard to use, especially in a gifted light. ![]()
we need see-through aluminum so we can see these art pieces.
Thanks for the compliments everyone. It definitely motivates me.
Heatsinks are starting to ship now.
I did start taking orders in the middle of the run… so it ended up being a bit of a pre-order situation after all. As usual, they took me longer to finish than I thought they would. I made 102 triples, 19 singles, and 4 customs. This has basically turned into an exercise to develop my lapping and finishing techniques. I ended up buying several granite surface plates, a bunch of different brands and grades of finishing paper, and various other items to facilitate better results. Not quite where I want to be yet but getting closer.

I still have one of the screw retaining triple heatsink from a past purchase, every time I see it it brings me a smile just to look at how perfect the machining is. 1 year later still haven’t found a worthy triple emitter setup to use it with. Most probably a flat white triple or sst-20 FD2 when it comes available.
New positive contact button design.

Unreal!
A part that no one would usually ever think twice about and you go and turn it into a tiny work of art!!
You need to transfer your skills to the parts on the outside of the lights rather than the parts that are all hidden inside!
Exactly - I’d say it is time for the first Hoop flashlight design.

DARKSIDE | NYMPH (10440 twisty Fet+1 flashlight w/ 4k 9050 219C) - if only you had been around when the kickstarter was active we would have made it! It’s all your fault tbh
That is too bad - I would have backed the project.
But with all the time I have wasted on other forums, reddit and other hobbies; I seriously didn’t know people would be on an online forum talking about flashlights.
Thinking about it - I still can’t believe how much content and innovation there is on here for a relatively simple purpose of mobile lighting.
The ingenuity and craftsmanship of members on here is outstanding.
I received the two copper cometa pills from Hoop and they are absolutely beautiful. I haven’t used it yet but will soon. Would be cool if Hoop can start making copper flashlight hosts. His craftsmanship is the best I’ve seen.
These are just gorgeous.
I’m not a fan of turning S2+ to high end lights. But looking at the pictures makes me want to buy a pill only to have it on the shelf.
me too.
a copper host in his great designs would be beautiful and I would even just buy that on its own.
thanks Hoop.

These components are supposed to be functional of course, and not flawless, or jewelry, but I do take the time to refine the processes involved and don’t skip the finishing work. Manufacturing something is a process, involving many smaller processes, and every single step of every process can be refined. This can take a lot of time and effort and many machine shops simply do not do it because time is money. Fortunately I do not work under the same kind of time constraints, and also I am making my own designs so there’s inherently more pride in the work. If you’re going to continuously produce something you want to take all of the time necessary to make sure the processes are refined because you only have to do that once and then it’s repeatable forever. The finishing work can take a part from good to exceptional. …There are a lot of machinists who don’t even bother to examine their work scrupulously, and then there are machinists who look at everything under magnification.
I don’t own or wear any jewelry (not even a wrist watch, nothing). So if I ever owned any of your art pieces, it would be treated as something valuable.
amazing words. this is faith in machining.
wishing you always well Hoop.
