FYI - Used BGA Epoxy Glue Remover

Hi,

I got a bottle of this BGA Epoxy remover:

awhile ago from Ebay, and I finally got to use it yesterday.

In my STL-V6, I had an XP-G2 on a regular 20mm star that I had glued to the top of the original star using 2 part Arctic Alumina (I had pulled the original emitter off of the original > 20mm star and had filed the original star down), and I have some XP-G2 emitters on Noctigons coming in, so I wanted to pull the 20mm star off.

I used some Q-tips, dipped them into the BGA remover, and kind of soaked around the edge of the 20mm star as best I could, and CAREFULLY, avoid splashing, etc., as this stuff is suppose to bad for eyes and skin (wear protective glasses!).

I then put the STL-V6 pill into a heavy Ziploc bag, and left it for 20 minutes.

The instructions say to do that whole thing over again after the 20 minutes, and so I took the pill out of the bag, and was going to re-apply the BGA remover, but I took a knife and stuck it in between the 20mm star and the original star, and the 20mm star just popped off!!

I rinsed the whole pill under cold water for awhile, and dried it out (I’ve DD’ed this, so no electronics/driver inside the pill).

I haven’t tried to remove the original star/PCB from the pill, as it’s some odd >20mm size anyway.

Just posting this, in case anyone might be interested.

Thanks for the info, sounds very useful. And now is the question: what is the solvent? I have quite some different solvents on the shelf at work, it may just be one of those.

Hi,

I don’t remember which thread it was where I found out about this stuff, but there was some discussion about what solvent it was. If I find the thread (it was about removing threadlock, I think), I’ll post a link.

Sorry.

Edit: Here’s the thread:
