Ganzo G720-G review

I just got my Ganzo G720 from Fasttech. The very first thing I noticed when I picked up the package is the weight. This thing is heavy. It was also interesting enough my dogs wouldn’t leave me alone while I was opening the package. It was like they sensed it was a new hunting toy that they will see in the woods in the future.

It comes in a Ganzo Box which is a sleeve over another box. As far as packaging, it is much better than the usual Chinese stuff. It also lists all of the specs for the knife.

Opening the box and this is what you find. The typical silica gel pack, the knife in a plastic wrapper, and a cloth sleeve to put the knife in. Nice touch, but absolutely useless to me.

Checking the measurements. Yup, the Chinese measured this knife correctly.

Now to the good stuff. Top of the knife. Blade is centered.

Axis Lock

Overall, I really like this knife. It locks up tight. The blade was too tight initially, but I loosened the blade a hair and I can now easily wrist flip the blade open. I like the blade profile and hope to try it out at skinning a hog soon. It has solid blade liners. The pocket/belt clip seems to be sturdy enough to be useful. I like how it is mounted on the end and can be flipped to whichever side you want. The scale and knife profile fit my hand perfectly, but may be too big for somebody with smaller hands. My only complaints is the blade was dull. A friend has a Tormek T7 so it will end up with a razor sharp edge. Also, one of the scale screws is a little proud. I’m going to try to grind it shorter and see if that will solve the problem. The release buttons are a little too recessed. The blade release is not a one finger operation as it is stiff, but at least it does it’s job. I can live with it knowing it’ll ease up some after some use.

This knife is Beaux approved

And was also approved by Phoebe

There you have it. A Beaux and Phoebe approved knife. Go get you one now!

Haha, your dogs might approve, but they have the look of “why are you hanging this knife on my collar?”

I ordered an orange one from FT last week and am patiently waiting for it to arrive. I have a few other Ganzo knives (g704, g712, g717) and find them to be quite good for the price.

Scarily close to my own Ganzos I have the G720-O, G717-O, G712 with a red and a blue G704 on order.
Plus the six G620s A/O with some printed Damascus blades. Good fun to play with.

Great review bgyen. Does yours have a really snappy détente when closing?
That scale screw wants taking out and the seat drilling out a touch, even flattening the contours at that spot would let it into the G10 more, probably enough that you wouldn’t notice it again.

Thanks for the review. Great info and pics.

It’s n10sivern’s review. Credit goes to him — I’m still awaiting for mine to come.

Sorry to both of you, still a cracking review n10sivern.
bgyen, watch your fingers the first time you close it, mine snaps shut, strongly but strangely isn’t too bad to open.

8steve88,
When closing it is pretty snappy. Resistance builds to a point then pop, it closes.

I may have to get in there and “adjust” something, possibly the ramp on the blade tang but I’ll try weakening the Ω springs a bit first, I’m up to my elbows in G717-OR at the moment, the scales hide too much of the lock bar for my feeble fingers to grip it easily. Giving it the de-burring and flattening treatment as well. Nothing is really wrong with the either of the knives, it’s just me being picky.

I got the same green 720 as n10sivern's review. I too thought it was dull until I picked up a piece of printer paper and proceeded to sheer it...lovely sound that is.

I've got it buttery smooth after oiling and opening and closing few hundred times. Can flick it open effortlessly and drop close it pretty as you please. Can't find a thing wrong with it. Very pleased with this piece from FastTech.

I’ve just come across a video from Lazy Lizard Gear swappimg the side that the pocket clip goes on, I’d never have guessed that it wasn’t symmetrical.

Interesting. But an easy fix. Statistically, I'm guessing more rightys than leftys in the world. BUT, at least it's fixable for left-handers.

I didn’t get to skin a hog today but I did use it to clean a turkey. Worked great.

Wow that’s a serious bird!

Thanks. 20.4 pound turkey I shot.

Nice one :) Please report how it holds vs hog skin... None of China knifes (got few navy, ganzo and other) does not hold edge.

Simple and cheapest Morakniv knifes are far better then this guys for skinning jobs because of better blade, although I have to admit build quality is perfect but with bad steel.

One day if they will want to import real steel I could pay few buck more for such quality.

+1

For a true working blade a Mora is impossible to beat for the money…everyone should own one just to see what real steel is.

For a folder for any actual use a Cold Steel or Benchmade or Spyderco might be a place to start.

They are not expensive if you are really going to use them.

My Benchmade I’ve had for over 20 years cost me $5 a year so far.

My usual skinning get includes:
A Wyoming knife

A browning gil hibben designed BR292 knife

And victorinox 6” boning knife
