If that is true, Molicel is really kicking ass. Hope they release a 5000mah 15A-20A cell too. I hope they will apply their tech to the less popular sizes like 26650 so we may hopefully see 7000+ mah soon.

I am confused. Are you saying Molicel will have a VTC5D and VTC6A rewrap or do you mean they will have a competitor to VTC5D and VTC6A?

He’s talking about a future Molicel cell that will compete with VTC5D/VTC6A. But that will be some time.

By the way if anyone’s interested in 21700’s, we got a very new very fancy Molicel (4200mAh 45A) up on the site yesterday.

45A at 4200mah??? Noway that’s possible. that’s even higher than the 30T. 40T only good for 30A. Need to have HKJ test it.

It is actually really a 45A continuous. However, Molicel is less conservative than their competitors in their ratings so it’s not really directly comparable to a rating from a Samsung for example. Truly running it at 45A continuous works in theory and they passed all the UL tests and such with that rating but I think it gets too hot for me to recommend doing that to anyone.

Mooch tested the 21700 Molicel P42A

This is a great performing 21700 which hits harder and runs for longer than the Samsung 40T. It even competes with the Samsung 30T at 30A. The 30T hits harder for about the first third of the discharge but then the P42A holds its voltage up better and hits harder for the rest of the discharge.

The datasheet lists 45A as the max continuous current rating but notes that cycle life is reduced at high current levels. Running this cell continuously at 45A gets it much too hot for that to be a continuous current rating we can use for comparing to other cells.

The datasheet lists the minimum capacity at 4000mAh. The four P42A’s I tested delivered 4168mAh - 4182mAh at 800mA (0.2C) down to 2.5V. This is amazing consistency and they all easily meet their minimum capacity rating.

I am rating this Molicel at 30A and 4000mAh.
