It’s not one of those “guess how many items and win a prize” games LOL. that said, 101 lights?
Very generous . I remember the Vir-O-Blast…Pretty cool!
Indeed! I’m currently working on a Fresnel thrower project and keep coming back to this as a reference.
Hello! You are not the only who has become less active here. I still drop by but have not built or modded a light in over a year. I’ve developed a big interest in making wood bowls and stuff on a new lathe.
All my best to you and your family
Hi Don,
Yes, I tried different hobbies too, but have not found the perfect replacement for the flashlight hobby yet. I’m always limited in what I can do because I can not have a workshop in our small appartment. Or else I would certainly have mills and lathes.
That is a beautiful bowl! I’m glad that you are still making stuff ![]()
Thank you, Jos
I try to do other hobby and now a Victorinox is dismantled for future upgrade with acid and scale and liner mod but in the meantime 1 flashlight call my attention and now a Firefly T1R has changed from @loneoceans Lume1 (3V 5A without FET) to Lume X1 (6V) with SFT70. I’t a pain in the ass..use mini drill in the head to cut spaces for the inductor, use file for usb port, wires that not fit easy in the mini fuxxing hole
, reflow led in the new MCPCB..but i am so happy every time i put my hands in a flashlight project..a big force call me and i am not able to resist.
Your bowls is gorgeous
It’s always comical seeing a BLF GT towering over other lights. It’s just so ridiculously oversized…
Some of the others, I can recognize even just from the end of the tailcap. Which I think means I’m way too deep in this rabbit hole. ![]()
Lots of history there! From the glory days of crowdsourced features and functions. I sort of miss those days, but don’t miss the hours spent modding something that Wurkkos or Sofirn or Astrolux mass-produced (and worked way better).
That GT is hilarious!
Wow Jos, you just quit everything?
I recognize a lot of lights, that is quite a collection with some serious value!
I still havent found an alternative hobby tbh ![]()
I am tempted to buy some stuff from you, especially the GT, but maybe its better not to
I quit the daily dialing in with BLF, but I do occasionally buy a flashlight. But as Toykeeper and Sirstinky above pointed out: a lot of the modding we did back in the day is pointless now because those grail flashlights are often ready-made by our favourite BLF-housebrands (although I have not seen my 6-led-random-slow-colourchanging-illuminated-tailcap in production yet
).
My BLF-GT4 is not for sale (yet). I changed the 4 XHP70.2 leds for 4000K 80CRI, and I’m still fond of that light: the sheer size indeed, but also that it puts out 25Klumen without fan and without need for stepping the power down at all, just go until the 8 18650 batteries are drained.

Today Dominik (BLF-member koef3) came round in a beautiful sunny Amsterdam to pick up the two boxes of flashlights. We decided to not organise a general meetup with more people after all because of the stirr that this thread turned into, but we did spend a very enjoyable 3 hours talking about flashlights, led emitters, phosfors, and how to measure stuff. We even managed to squeeze in lunch (together with my girlfriend and son who were both baffled and amused by our endless stream of nerd-talk)
It was very rare and much fun to be able to talk about anything that I have ever done on modding and measuring flashlights and leds with someone who understands it all (and actually much more that is above me). While talking, I realised that back in the days my tests and measurements may have been on a then new level for the flashlight hobby, but Dominik does a great job at reaching the next level with his very thorough tests and other flashlight-related undertakings, it is nice that such things are still being done on BLF (by him and by others)
All in all, it was much fun, and Dominik even released me from some ancient flashlight drivers and a led that he may have some use for.
Greetings, Jos
Nice!
I’m glad that there was a happy ending. ![]()
Super! ![]()
So am I, and I love happy endings (where are the tissues when you need them).
A very dutch response, Henk. ![]()
