Ok, we’re having a week down in Wales, we’re stopping in a static caravan (as far as I can approximate, a trailer for our American cousins). So toni’s drawn up lists, baby stuff (one two year old, one 14 week old) coats, clothes, bed linen etc.
I moved the sat nav from my van to the truck, added a road atlas, phone chargers etc, then continued with charging my various cells, picking which lights I would take (basically the new ones that turned up this week and a couple of trusted favorites).
So how does everyone prepare for their holidays? I also bolted a roof box on the truck for additional load capacity (there’s six of us going all in, even a landcruiser has an internal limit).
Really just depends where I’m going. If it’s a waterpark, I just pack all my clothes in a suitcase or duffel bag, places like that have no need for a light other than a sipik. But if it’s camping, the minivans full all the way to the ceiling, and we’ll only have 3 people in the car, normally the car fits 8! All my lights would be great for camping too; for obvious reasons. But a must for all those places also, is knives, don’t kill me guys, but they are typically more usefull
Okay, now onto lingo. I’m glad I watch Top Gear(Nice show btw UK), otherwise it’d take me a couple seconds to figure out what sat nav is. Everyone here in the states calls sat nav, GPS. Here’s some more differences, we also call road atlas’s, road maps. What is a “landcruiser”? Is it the toyota landcruiser, or is it a minivan, or as i’ve heard on top gear “people carrier”?
As Chicago said, lists! They are such a brilliant thing. Make a list, add to it whenever something pops into your head, and check it off as you pack it. Saves my ass every time!
I always preferred a carrier that plugs into a hitch receiver so that I didn’t add to the already high drag of a large vehicle. Really helps for high speed travel, downside is tailgate access can be limited till it’s unloaded.
It’s my take on a people carrier, 8 seats with some luggage space, 4wd, proper axles, good 4.2 turbo diesel straight six, I love it. It’ll go pretty much any where, comfortably, and it’s hit 95mph on the motorway before I backed off
Cool ride! Did you mod that suspension/axle, or does it come stock like that? Can’t figure it out on my own because it’s older, so people have more tendency to mod it. But that suspension is still spring, rather than leaf or those cylinder hydraulics thingies. And people usually mod it to that. Maybe it’s just a great machine made by toyota when they made good vehicles!
It’s on coils, had a 2” lift, but that’s all, from the factory its trailing arm front, four link with panhard rear. So they flex pretty good out the factory, but are also nice and comfy. And the best thing is, It’s not a Landrover…
Holiday trip depends how far and for how many days we are going. Making a list is good practice and shop accordingly. I am in Melbourne, Australia and planning to go Perth for two weeks. And i made a list and shop all things like clothing, bed linen, some frozen food. Hope to have fun!
